An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) in our Hub laboratory sample reception team. The Croxley Park Hub is a new HSL Hub laboratory designed to provide a comprehensive pathology service for Hertfordshire and West Essex (HWE) GP, Community providers, and Hospitals. The Hub offers state-of-the-art processes, analytics, and pre-analytics.

The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated lab support staff and biomedical scientists in delivering a high-quality pathology service. We are looking for someone who is positive, proactive, and has attention to detail. Previous experience would be helpful; however, full training will be provided for all work performed.

This post offers the opportunity to broaden your skills, knowledge, and experience in a busy pathology sample reception, providing a 24/7 Haematology, Biochemistry, and Infectious Sciences service. The Hub, when fully operational and following the transition of all sites in the HWE Network, will process 15,000 samples per day.

The main duties focus on all sample handling aspects of diagnostic laboratory work from specimen receipt, triage, data entry, pre-analytical preparation, and tracking to the analytical department. The role is multi-disciplined, involving the development of knowledge across a wide variety of specimen types and testing requirements, covering blood sciences and infection sciences.

The successful candidate will provide support with daily laboratory duties, maintenance of equipment, and contribute to the team's Quality Management System by participating in audits and incident investigations. The Hub is not yet operational, and as a new laboratory, the ideal candidate will need to be adaptable to a changing environment, committed to service excellence, and have a genuine desire for continued personal and professional development.

The Hub will operate a 24/7 service, so the successful candidate will be expected to participate in all shifts required to cover this timeframe. This means the post holder will initially work core hours whilst in training but will be required, once trained and competent, to work as part of a 24/7 service shift rota, consisting of Early, Core, Late, and Nights along with weekends and bank holidays to work within any section of the department.
