Due to the growth of our services we are looking for employed Ophthalmologists to join us across the UK in our CHEC Hospitals and Community Centres.

What will I be doing as an Ophthalmologist?

The post holder will be required to perform a range of ophthalmology appointments on patients referred to CHEC and provide supervision of the provision of adult community ophthalmology services delivered by healthcare professionals, working in accordance with CHEC treatment protocols and working practices. Day to day, the post holder will deliver high quality clinical care to patients attending the community ophthalmology service in the following areas:

  • General Ophthalmology
  • Glaucoma services
  • AMD
  • Laser treatment
  • Minor eye Operations
  • High volume phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia if applicable

To be successful in this role

To continue with our support for the NHS, we are looking for experienced general ophthalmologists of all grades to undertake consultation clinics and/or ophthalmic surgeries across the range of services we offer. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently independently in clinics/theatre. Applicants will also need to demonstrate commitment to excellent teamwork. The post holder will have the opportunity to review their job plan with the Clinical Director at least annually.

Person Specification

  • UK registered Medical Degree or equivalent
  • MRCOphth/FRCOphth/FRCS
  • Full or Specialist GMC Registration
  • Up-to-date with current medical practice
  • Wide training and experience in general ophthalmology
  • Able to offer expert clinical opinion on general ophthalmology
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Understanding of audit and Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexible, objective and assertive
  • Able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms with all colleagues, both clinical and non-clinical
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use spoken and written language
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to travel independently to all hospital sites within a region
  • Willing to meet volume and clinical productivity targets
  • Desirable: competent independent cataract surgeon
