Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to lead the education, training and professional development of our pharmacy technical workforce. Working closely with the pharmacy leadership team, you will develop, coordinate and deliver high-quality education programmes for trainee pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support staff and registered pharmacy technicians, supporting apprenticeships, foundation training and ongoing professional development.

You will play a key role in shaping the future pharmacy workforce by promoting a positive learning culture, ensuring training meets national standards and regulatory requirements, and supporting the development of extended roles and career pathways. Alongside your education responsibilities, you will provide professional leadership, line management and mentorship, contribute to quality improvement initiatives and maintain your own clinical and technical practice to support the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred pharmacy services.

Any successful applicant for the above post will be expected to participate in flexible working which will include weekend, late duty and bank holiday rotas.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the delivery, development and evaluation of education and training programmes for the pharmacy technical workforce.
  • Coordinate the training and assessment of trainee pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support staff, apprentices and registered pharmacy technicians.
  • Act as an Educational Supervisor, mentor and coach, supporting learners and staff throughout their development.
  • Ensure education and training programmes meet General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), apprenticeship and national workforce standards.
  • Develop and promote career development pathways, supporting advanced and extended roles for pharmacy technicians and support staff.
  • Line manage and support members of the education and training team, fostering a positive learning culture.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy, multidisciplinary and external education partners
  • Identify workforce learning needs and develop education strategies that support service priorities and workforce planning.
  • Lead and contribute to quality improvement, audit and service development initiatives relating to education and workforce development.
  • Ensure accurate training records are maintained and provide reports on education, competency and compliance as required.
  • Support recruitment, induction and onboarding of new pharmacy staff.
  • Maintain professional registration, competence and clinical credibility through continuing professional development and participation in pharmacy services where appropriate.
