This is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist expertise in paediatric diabetes and cystic fibrosis, working as part of established multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality care across acute and community settings. You will support children and young people with complex nutritional needs, contribute to service development and play a key role in improving patient outcomes.

The post is offered as either a Band 7 specialist role or a Band 6 to Band 7 developmental opportunity. Applicants appointed at Band 6 will be supported through a structured development pathway, including specialist training, mentorship and competency-based progression to Band 7.

- To work as an independent practitioner using an advanced level of knowledge and skills in leading the provision of an advanced specialist paediatric dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients.

Job responsibilities:
- To work autonomously and be professionally and legally accountable acting as an independent advanced specialist paediatric practitioner.
- As a clinical lead specialist, to be responsible for the development and provision of a comprehensive and effective diabetes and cystic fibrosis specialist dietetic service in a variety of settings, including supporting patients using diabetes technology.
- To be fully responsible for a defined highly specialised clinical case load of paediatric patients with a range of complex clinical conditions.
- Working autonomously use complex calculations, interpretation of biochemistry, undertake complex anthropometric measurements and clinical observation along with growth and development indices, medication, family and social history and diet history in order to formulate, deliver, constantly evaluate and adjust an individualised nutritional treatment plan.
- This will require an advanced understanding of complex clinical conditions and use highly developed analytical and clinical reasoning judgemental skills to diagnose problems and formulate feeding plans and solutions.
- To use own advanced specialist expertise and professional judgement in situations where information is often complex and possibly conflicting or where there is a lack of published evidence to provide accurate nutritional treatment plans.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- BSc /Msc in Dietetics or equivalent
- Registration in Dietetics with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Evidence of postgraduate learning in relevant specialist area
- Member of British Dietetic Association and relevant specialist group
- Clinical Supervisory Skills training
Desirable:
- Line management training
- BDA accredited MSc modules
Experience:
Essential:
- Significant recent experience in paediatrics, including management of complex cases.
- Extensive experience of working in multidisciplinary/multiprofessional teams
- Experience in the planning, delivery and evaluation of patient education programmes.
- Demonstrable experience in supervision, mentoring or line management
- Demonstratable experience and knowledge of safeguarding practices of children in the clinical area and child protection procedures
- Leading and participating in dietetic audit, research and service evaluation
- Experience in training and supervision of student dietitians and dietetic staff.
Desirable:
- Experience of report writing for a variety of purposes
- Involvement in regional or national dietetic networks or special interest groups.
- Experience in service development or change management
