We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Nurse to join our Crisis Assessment and Intensive Support Team (CAIST) within the Suffolk Crisis Service. This is a dynamic and rewarding role supporting children and young people in acute mental health distress.
You will be responsible for assessing referrals, delivering direct care, and managing a caseload in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. The role involves work in a fast-paced environment where your clinical expertise and decision-making will have a direct impact on service users and their families.
Main duties of the job:
- Undertake direct assessments and deliver care plans for children and young people in crisis.
- Ensure the appropriateness of referrals and continuity of care across services.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners including CAMHS, social care, and education.
- Provide supervision and support to junior staff and students.
- Maintain accurate mental health clustering and documentation across all stages of care.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Job responsibilities:
- The post holder will be working within a community CAMHS Crisis team, ensuring the appropriateness of referrals, undertaking direct assessment and planning and delivering direct patient care with appropriate supervision, ensuring continuity of practice and working within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.
- Managing a caseload and the provision of Mental Health Care services to people with mental health care needs.
- Support and advising to other health care professionals.
- To support aspects of service development.
- Provide an appropriate learning environment for relevant UEA students.
- To be responsible for accurate mental health clustering of all patients on admission, discharge and at review.
- To ensure all mental health clustering information is passed onto other Trust teams or services on transfer of patients.
- To ensure the accuracy and quality of mental health clustering activity within the team.
This post attracts a recruitment premium of £3,000 (pro-rata for part time roles). This is a one off payment with half paid on appointment and half paid after the completion of a satisfactory probation period (6 months). The premium is taxable.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Registered Mental Health Nurse with the relevant professional registration; Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor training (in line with NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment 2018).
- Experience: Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team; Familiar with risk assessment and its management.
- Skills: Able to demonstrate the ability to process, plan and delegate work; Able to time manage and reflect on clinical practice.
- Others: Be able and willing to undertake further training / development specific to the role.
