Job summary

Band 5 Staff Nurse to work within Special Care Baby Unit caring for sick and premature babies and their families. To work within the Team to care for sick and preterm babies. Full training will be given to successful candidate and will work alongside experienced members of the team. The successful candidate will care for babies from admission to discharge and also be involved in the stabilisation of babies that require transfer to a Tertiary Unit.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake NLS training and 4 yearly and to complete Qualification in Speciality Foundation and Intensive

Main duties of the job

To promote and deliver patient centered care aligned with the Trust vision and Nursing ND Midwifery Strategy

To provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence based practice.

To be responsible under supervision for the provision of skilled nursing care within the multidisciplinary team. There may be a requirement to supervise/demonstrate procedures to student nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

To support a continuously improving service, in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives and the NHS performance framework.

To continually develop professionally to ensure the post holder has the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/speciality requirements.

Job responsibilities

  • Contribute to the provision of individual patient care in order to maintain skills as a health care professional.
  • Act as patient advocate in all matters relating to children and young people and their care, treatment and welfare acknowledging and incorporating cultural preferences, health beliefs and behaviours.
  • Facilitate an environment where health promotion and informed patient choice is encouraged and developed.
  • Promote and maintain a culture where staff actively contribute to clinical governance agenda.
  • Be pro-active in risk assessment and clinical incident reporting and participate in root cause analysis where required.
  • Constantly promote the importance of the patient experience within the team and actively seek the views of parents and carers in the process of evaluating and developing care delivery on the ward/Dept.
  • Undertake delegated clinical care duties in relation to wound care.
  • After appropriate training and competency assessment, perform area specific clinical skills in line with core standards under the direction of a registered professional.
  • Care of palliative patients and family.
  • Support to vulnerable babies and their families adhering to trust safeguarding procedures.
  • Be able to initiate or respond to emergency situations

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse either Adult or Child

Desirable

  • Teaching Qualification
  • NLS
  • qis

Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant knowledge of Neonatal care
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Organisational and time management

Desirable

  • Previous roles relating to Neonatal Care

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within an acute hospital environment with Neonates

Desirable

  • 2 years Post qualifying experience
