Job summary

This post is to provide a full clinical service within the Department at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust. This is a service-based job undertaking clinics. The service at Dorset County Hospital has maintained the NHS 18-week pathway of care and this post will continue to assist in the delivery of this target over the coming months. This post is a full-time position.

Main duties of the job

To provide day-case and outpatient ophthalmology services to patients in Dorset. To participate in the provision of the acute ophthalmology service To contribute to the training of junior doctors and other professional team members To fulfil continuing professional development requirements in line with clinical governance To participate in audit and clinical governance.

Job responsibilities

modification of the job description will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

The 10 PA job plan includes.

Direct Clinical Care: 8.5 PAs per week (Includes clinical activity & clinical related activity)

Supporting Professional Activities 1.5 PAs per week (Includes CPD, audit, teaching and research)

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration and a license to practice is required
  • Postgraduate training in Ophthalmology
  • FRCS or equivalent

Experience

  • At least 3 years clinical experience in Ophthalmology
  • Evidence of good oral and written communication skills

Desirable

  • Sub-specialist interest
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Recent and significant experience in the UK
  • Evidence of working independently.
  • At least 4 years post graduate experience

Skills, Abilities& Knowledge

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

Audit

  • Knowledge of medical and clinical audit principles and evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months.

Research

  • Knowledge of principles of research
