Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist Stockport

We are excited to offer the opportunity for experienced OTs registered with HCPC to join our dynamic children's therapies services in Stockport. We are an innovative service and have been undergoing transformation using The Balanced System (R) approach over the last few years. This puts us in an excellent position to deliver the Experts at Hand model in the SEND reforms.

This role is to:

• Provide an occupational therapy service to children in Stockport using The Balanced System (R) framework.
• Meet the functional needs of children across their home learning environment, their community and in educational settings at universal, targeted and specialist level and across the 5 strands of the balanced system framework.
• Work as a member of a team, providing assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children with varied and complex functional difficulties.
• Liaise with health, education and social services, working in partnership with primary carers and external agencies to ensure the delivery of a high quality service.
• Work in a variety of settings, seeing children either in their own homes, community settings or nurseries, mainstream schools, resource units and special schools and clinics with a range of complex special needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work as part of the children's therapy services team providing support to ensure a continuum of offer is available in the local area using the balanced system matrix.
• Create / develop 'mini balanced system' offer in own area of work.
• Perform advanced therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex difficulties, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
• Be responsible for your own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.
• Supervise, educate and assess the performance of Students.
• Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this, it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Education and Qualifications:

• Approved qualification in OT.
• Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical fields of paediatrics.
• Membership of RCOT.
• State Registration (HCPC).

Knowledge:

• Clinical reasoning skills.
• Clinical audit experience.
• Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
• Knowledge of legislation relating to children.
• Knowledge of electronic patient records.
• Knowledge of working of community therapy services and paediatric services.

Experience:

• Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
• Experience of electronic records.
• Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff or students or assistants.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to develop relationships with awareness of inter-personal skills.
• Ability to convey clinical information simply and clearly in written form.
• Able to manage time effectively and excellent problem solving abilities.
• Up-to-date in current issues around professional practice and evidence-based practice.
• Ability to keep accurate electronic patient records.

Work Related Circumstances:

• Ability to communicate with patients with complex needs and their families/ partner agencies.
• Able to cope with potential problems and to cope with aggressive or emotional behaviours.
• Ability to travel independently and efficiently across multiple community sites to meet the operational requirements of the role.
