Main duties of the job:

  • Processing high volumes of routine microbiology specimens.
  • Culture, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Reading and interpreting routine culture plates.
  • Routine bacteriology and associated microbiological investigations.
  • Working within ISO 15189/UKAS (or equivalent) accredited laboratory standards.
  • Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and turnaround times in a busy diagnostic laboratory.

Job responsibilities:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist Microbiology to join a busy NHS laboratory in London. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-performing microbiology department processing a large volume of routine diagnostic samples.

Experience Required:

  • Processing high volumes of routine microbiology specimens.
  • Culture, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Reading and interpreting routine culture plates.
  • Routine bacteriology and associated microbiological investigations.
  • Working within ISO 15189/UKAS (or equivalent) accredited laboratory standards.
  • Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and turnaround times in a busy diagnostic laboratory.

Essential Requirements:

  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Specialist Portfolio must be completed.
  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • A minimum of 4 years' post-registration/postgraduate experience working exclusively within a routine Microbiology laboratory.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume hospital laboratory, such as an NHS, government, university teaching, or tertiary referral hospital or large Private laboratories based in the UK.
  • Confident working independently across all areas of routine microbiology.

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.

Experience Essential:

  • A minimum of 4 years' post-registration/postgraduate experience working exclusively within a routine Microbiology laboratory.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume hospital laboratory, such as an NHS, government, university teaching, or tertiary referral hospital or large Private laboratories based in the UK.
