Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) to work within the Acute Oncology Service. We're looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) but would also consider recruiting to a trainee role for the right candidate. The role involves the delivery of unscheduled care to people with complications of cancer and its treatment and supporting trainee ACPs through their academic and clinical pathways.

Job responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include being prepared to work a variety of shifts including weekend and night shifts.

Evidence of working as an independent practitioner in an acute setting.

For qualified ACP role, a Masters Certificate in Advanced Clinical Practice or a recognised equivalent. This must include a recognised Non-Medical Prescribing registration.For trainee ACP role, evidence of academic working at level 7 and evidence of senior decision making and experience.

ABUT THE TEAM

The ACP team within the Acute Oncology Service (MAOS) review patients presenting to UHS for unscheduled and emergency cancer care 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. The team are also the primary providers of the Cancer Care Emergency Helpline which is fundamental to the the delivery of of the service. The team work hand-in-hand with the ACPs across the care group to provide a dynamic, ACP-led approach to care delivery.

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner training scheme in cancer care commenced in 2014 and has been recognised for its innovative approach to care, winning a Health Education England Wessex Shine Award in 2015. The Acute Oncology Service also won the Macmillan Service Improvement Excellence Award in 2016 in recognition of of its positive impact on the quality of patient care.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

On a day-to-day basis, you'll work within the unit to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who attend following triage by the Cancer Care Emergency Helpline service or by referral from pre-hospital healthcare professionals, primary care or the Emergency Department.

These patients will have a cancer diagnosis and may be experiencing complications of cancer or its treatment.. You will handle calls to the Cancer Care Emergency Helpline and will be the principle person responsible for the delivery of this service, ensuring that quality standards are met and that patient safety is optimised.

Additionally, you will provide leadership for the trainee ACPs, guiding and supporting them through their academic pathway and ensuring that evolving service needs are are met.. As part of the provision of a 24hr service, you will be required to work a mixture of day, weekend (including bank holidays), and night duties.

As a a band 8a ACP working in AOS, you will be supported to learn the Senior Clinical Decision Making role where you will develop the skills required to hold the referral bleep for Acute Oncology and and provide gatekeeping for patients refereed into the service. This will be alongside the lead ACPs for the service and a team of senior and and junior doctors.

If recruited as a band 7 trainee AACP working in in AOS, you will be expected to to undertake any outstanding modules in the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice and will be supported with clinical and academic development. This will be a developmental role, with progression to band 8a following successful completion of MSc and Advanced Practice panel review.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're seeking an Advanced Clinical Practitioner who is at the the end of of their academic pathway, with all the relevant competencies signed off, and has extensive experience of the care of of patients with with cancer. We would also welcome applications from nurses and AHPs who can evidence working at a senior level, as well as evidence of level 7 academic skill. Recent experience of of working within an Acute Oncology Service or within acute / emergency care at an advanced level of practice is highly desirable.

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner will have demonstrable experience of supporting staff along with a drive to deliver excellent patient care. Experience of service improvement would also be beneficial.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

• Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of of NMC / HCPC register
• Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent - Minimum 120 credits at L6 or evidence of Masters level study)
• Committed and eligible for participation in and completion of MSc in area of speciality
• Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to to Provide evidence of: oSupporting a range of of learners in in practice oSupporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
• Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
• Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Significant Post Registration experience within chosen specialty
• Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
• Coaching/leadership experience

Desirable

• Completion of HTPA Competencies
• Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
• ILS trained
• Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice
• Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner
• Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway
• Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan)
• Maths and English Level 2 or have recognised equivalence from the ENIC process
