Senior Neonatal Staff Nurse - Band 6 Guernsey

The post holder will take charge of the Special Care Unit, coordinate care delivery and staffing safely and effectively. They will communicate effectively with the MDT, families, and UK hospitals to support seamless care. The Senior Staff Nurse will work autonomously and play a key role in shaping care delivery while maintaining a calm, professional presence.

To support and develop colleagues, acting as a role model at all times. Leadership is a vital aspect to this role, and the post holder must lead by example, promoting high standards of compassionate, evidence-based neonatal care. They will be expected to lead a resuscitation before the Consultant arrives out of hours and must have the expertise to care for every level of the sick neonate. If below 34 weeks, the Senior Staff Nurse must be able to stabilise the baby with the medical team and await the medical air transfer team.

Main duties of the job include:

• Responsibility for Patient/Service User Care
• To undertake the assessment of patients/service users with complex needs including individuals with unconfirmed diagnosis.
• To develop, implement and evaluate specialised programmes of care utilising evidence and research.
• To work autonomously, recognising changes in patients'/service users' presentation which require intervention, knowing when to elevate as appropriate.
• To guide, advise and direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialised patient/service user care.
• To promote patient/service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
• To utilise data and information from a range of sources to identify patient/service user condition to guide decision making.
• To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
• To ensure that professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the postholder's sphere of responsibility.
• To report all accidents and incidents as per policy and participate in risk management and Quality and Safety processes.
• To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and elevate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate processes.

Person Specification:

Qualifications Essential:

• The ability to evidence how HSCs CARE Values are applied in practice.
• Evidence of relevant CPD.
• A high standard of communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal with complex and challenging situations in a calm and diplomatic manner.
• The ability to effectively prioritise own workload and that of others.
• The ability to work autonomously and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Commitment to self-development and the development of others.
• Adaptable and responsive to changing service needs.
• Ability to deal with stress in self and others, recognising when support is required.

Desirable:

• Minimum Qualification: Registered Children's Nurse or RN Child/RGN with the NMC.
• Diploma/Degree in related field.
• Post registration neonatal nursing experience.
