Job summary

We are seeking one senior clinical fellows/registrar to work within our HIV service based at the Royal Free Hospital for 3 months between November 2026 and February 2027. Later starts may be considered if they meet service requirements. The HIV service provided by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is globally recognised as a Centre of Excellence for HIV care. It serves the inpatient and outpatient needs of over 3000 people living with HIV and has one of the largest cohorts of women living with HIV in the country. As a service embedded within a large acute Trust which is part of UCL Partners and the UCL Medical School it is able to provide on-site holistic care, while at the same time contributing to the education and training of future generations of health professionals (medical undergraduates rotate through our clinics and wards every year). Main duties of the job

You must maintain acceptable clinical and infection, prevention and control standards. Principles of Clinical Governance must be an integral part of your clinical practice. You will be expected to provide clear and concise documentation. You are expected to contribute to developing and/or maintaining an environment that is patient centred and promotes excellent clinical care. You are expected to help provide a holistic and patient centred service.

  • Current GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent Postgraduate degree
  • Full MRCP(UK)

Desirable

  • Higher degrees including MSc, BSc, PhD or MD

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take, during core training or equivalent
  • Experience at CT/ST level of managing people living with HIV

Academic Skills

Essential

  • Fluency in English
  • Computer Literacy
  • Good communication skills

Desirable

  • Involvement in teaching students, postgraduates and other professionals
  • Understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Understanding of research methodology
  • Relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Competence at core-completion level in the management of medical emergencies, in-patients and outpatients
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Proficiency in a range of medical procedures (as defined by the core curriculum)
  • Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate and to prioritise clinical need
  • Able to maximise safety and minimise risk and an understanding of clinical governance
  • Current ALS certification or equivalent
  • Skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (eg ALERT, IMPACT certification)
