Job summary

The post holder will join the Community Paediatrics team and gain experience across a range of community-based paediatric services. The post will provide opportunities to develop skills in the assessment and management of children with Developmental Problems e.g. Global Developmental Delay and Autism assessment in the under 5s, Motor Coordination Disorder, Neurodevelopmental disorders and Neuro-disability and Children looked after (CLA) clinics.

Main duties of the job

The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

  • To at all times, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.
  • To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Supervisor(s).
  • To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
  • On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction.
  • To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
  • To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and out patients under your care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will attend Community Paediatric outpatient clinics, with appropriate Consultant supervision, and contribute to multidisciplinary working with community and wider paediatric teams.

There will be dedicated educational and training opportunities, including teaching sessions, case discussions, safeguarding meetings, audit and relevant multidisciplinary meetings. The post holder will also have access to Trust-wide training opportunities.

A named Consultant Educational Supervisor will provide regular support and guidance, including workplace-based assessments and professional development. Support will also be available for postgraduate examinations and annual appraisal as part of revalidation.

There is no on-call or out-of-hours commitment as part of this post.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC
  • Child protection training

Desirable

  • MRCPCH
  • APLS, NLS or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Paediatrics,
  • Previous experience in Paediatrics at FT3+ level or higher

Desirable

  • An interest in developing a career as a Community Paediatrician

Skills

Essential

  • Experience of Community Paediatric work. Good interpersonal skills including communication with children / family and the multidisciplinary team
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to teach junior staff
  • An understanding of the principles of evidence-based medicine and knowledge of audit process

Desirable

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Participation in teaching and supervising junior staff /students
  • Participation in a previous audit project
  • Previous participation in research projects and/or publications

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good core knowledge of current Paediatric practice (both General Paediatrics and Community)
