Senior Clinical Fellow - MT04 in AMU/ SDEC

Working independently to provide efficient medical diagnosis and care of patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, as well as supporting the Emergency Department with medical reviews as may be required from time to time.

Conducting Ward Rounds in a timely manner, ensuring all electronic documentation is completed in line with Trust policy and procedures, including e-Prescribing, Patient Records and Patient Discharge Letters. The Trust operates a fully electronic patient record system.

The appointment will be for 40 hours per week and contribute to a 1:9 on-call.

This post is a 2 year fixed term contract

Main duties of the job

• Be dedicated to hands-on involvement with medical admissions to the Acute Medicine Unit focusing on timely assessment, management and discharge
• Support ANP's on both AMU/SDEC
• Contribute to front-door patient flow, ensuring safe and timely movement through AMU/SDEC
• Initiate investigations and treatment for undifferentiated acute medical presentations.
• Undertake rapid diagnostics and decision-making for patients suitable for same-day assessment and treatment.
• Provide independent clinical assessment and management of acute medical patients presenting to AMU and SDEC.
• To clerk patients and keep up-to-date histories and records regarding patient care.
• To keep an up-to-date accurate job list regarding all patients.
• To record clear, accurate, and approved drug and fluid prescriptions.
• To supervise Foundation Year 1 and 2 trainees, LED's, ACP's and medical students
• Such other specific clinical duties as allocated by the Consultants. The postholder accepts that they will also perform other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment
• Medical Degree from a recognised university
• MRCP or equivalent or working towards MRCP qualification
• Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.

• Experience of problem-based learning

Experience

Essential

• Broad training in all aspects of General Internal Medicine
• Outpatient clinic experience and able to work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
• Experience of audit with a demonstrable record of audits performed.
• Equivalent years' experience in relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
