To provide Assistant Psychology support to the Complex Emotional Needs and Primary care Network (0.7) and also provide support (0.3) to the Principal Psychologist within the Specialist community Forensic Service.
Main duties of the job
- Assist multidisciplinary colleagues in delivering individual and group therapeutic interventions.
- Support the formulation and delivery of care plans addressing service users' psychological needs.
- Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary and other relevant clinical meetings.
- Communicate sensitively and professionally with service users, families, carers, professionals and partner agencies.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
- Receive regular clinical supervision in line with professional practice guidance.
- Comply with relevant HCPC, BPS and DCP standards, codes and professional guidance.
- Maintain high professional standards through agreed internal and external continuing professional development.
- Develop the skills and competencies required for the role.
- Contribute to the training and support of staff providing psychological care.
Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
- Support the design and implementation of service-development projects and contribute to associated planning meetings.
- Participate in Primary Care Integrated Mental Health Hub business and professional meetings, and Psychological Professions meetings.
Research and Service Evaluation
- Support audit, research and service-evaluation projects, including data collection, analysis and report writing using appropriate IT and statistical tools.
- Review evidence-based literature to support qualified clinical psychologists and the wider team in evidence-based practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Essential: Upper 2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology; Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society.
- Desirable: Further post graduate training in relevant areas of psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Experience
- Essential: Paid or unpaid work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities; Experience of running therapeutic groups within Adult Mental Health; Knowledge of evidence based practice; Previous Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist.
- Desirable: Experience of paid work in direct care provision; Experience with client group relevant to post; Experience of psychometric test administration and interpretation; Experience of providing individual interventions; Previous experience of delivering teaching / training; Leadership / supervision experience.
Knowledge
- Essential: An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities; Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health / cognitive impairment / disability context; Demonstrates knowledge and experience of research and research methodology; An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare.
Skills
- Essential: High level of communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate and work in highly emotive circumstances; Ability to communicate sensitive information to clients, carers and colleagues; An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines; An ability to interact appropriately with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities; Ability to work reliably and consistently on tasks agreed and managed at regular intervals by Supervisor; Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.
