Salary range: Up to £66,582.10 per annum DOE inclusive of regional pay allowance plus unsocial working hours allowance (For Night-Shift)
Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that employees filling certain roles need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls into the category of requiring a DBS check (standard).
About the Service
The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) has delivered contracted pathology services to private hospital groups across the UK since 2011. Services are delivered via a hub-and-spoke model, with laboratories embedded within hospital sites to support a defined geographical network.
The Rivers Laboratory is based within Ramsay Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, and provides services to the host site and six additional hospitals, including two with blood transfusion services. There is ample car parking available and a staff canteen on site.
The laboratory operates a 24/7 service and supports outpatient, surgical, and oncology services, working closely with hospital clinical teams.
Services provided onsite include: Biochemistry, Haematology and Coagulation, Blood Transfusion (including provision and remote issue of blood products). Additional specialist testing is referred to TDL’s central laboratories in London via a tracked referral system. The laboratory is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of approximately 15 staff, including MLAs, trainee and registered Biomedical Scientists, Senior BMS staff, and the Pathology Lead. Equipment platforms include Roche, Sysmex, and Grifols analysers, and the network is transitioning to a single integrated LIMS system.
About the Job
Applicants will need to have experience at band 6 or equivalent level, Blood Transfusion experience is essential, and must be able to work as part of the laboratory team, with responsibility for maintaining a safe, high-quality diagnostic service during all shifts.
Applicants must include their HCPC registration number on their CV and be able to work days, nights, and weekends without restriction.
Key duties include:
- Receipt, booking, and processing of patient samples
- Performance and monitoring of internal quality control (IQC) and participation in external quality assessment (EQA)
- Authorisation and reporting of laboratory results in line with departmental protocols
- Troubleshooting instrumentation and resolving analytical issues
- Completion of operational and quality-related documentation
- Reporting and investigation of incidents in accordance with governance procedures
- Supporting stock control and reagent management
- Issuing blood components
The role requires the ability to work independently and safely as a lone practitioner.
Working Arrangements
- Mon-Fri include earlies, core days and lates
- Nights are mostly covered by dedicated night staff but there will be cover required
- Weekend and out-of-hours shifts with the addition of enhanced rates and overtime.
