An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Nurse to join our team at Halton Haven Hospice. Halton Haven is a small and friendly hospice, much loved by our community, serving people from Halton and West Cheshire. We are a healthcare charity that delivers vital care, support, and advice to people suffering from life-limiting illnesses and their families, every day of the year. We employ around 60 staff.

The ideal candidate will already have experience in a clinical nursing role and provide high-quality person-centred care in an adult hospice setting. Duties will include administering medication and treatments, providing a plan of care to support the patient with symptom management or end-of-life care. The role will involve ensuring patients are supported to maintain privacy and dignity within their individual medical, spiritual and emotional needs, whilst also providing excellent end-of-life care, acting as a patient advocate where necessary. Support clinical team members by working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, palliative end-of-life care. Palliative experience and end-of-life care are desirable. The successful post holder will be professional with excellent engagement and communication skills. The postholder will be organised, able to prioritise a busy workload and have sound ICT skills.

Main duties of the job

• Delivering high-quality palliative and end-of-life nursing care.

Job responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, person-centred palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring patients' physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs are met.
• Support the Ward Manager and wider team by providing clinical leadership, acting as Nurse in Charge when required, and supervising Healthcare Assistants, students and new staff.
• Contribute to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care, ensuring patients maintain dignity, independence and choice.
• Work in accordance with all Hospice policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain professional standards and attend mandatory and statutory training to ensure safe and effective practice.
• Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues by adhering to Health and Safety policies and promptly reporting risks, incidents or hazards.
• Ensure the safe use of equipment and contribute to infection prevention and control practices.
• Develop positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues and healthcare professionals, demonstrating compassion, empathy and professionalism.

• Participate in handovers, meetings and service developments while ensuring high standards of care, governance and patient safety are maintained.
• Promote a culture of inclusion, respect and equality, ensuring all patients, visitors and colleagues are treated fairly and with dignity.
• Safeguard vulnerable adults and children by adhering to Hospice safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date safeguarding knowledge through mandatory training and take appropriate action where concerns are identified.
• This role offers opportunities to develop leadership skills through shift coordination, mentoring and supporting junior staff and students.
• Nurses are encouraged to undertake continuing professional development and gain experience that can support progression into senior nursing, specialist palliative care or management roles.

Person Specification

Experience

• Essential: 1-2 years clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse.
• Desirable: Community and/or Hospice nursing experience; Experience of nursing patients with palliative care needs; Post registration experience.

Qualifications

• Essential: RGN qualification & current NMC registration; BSc in Nursing (Diploma in nursing as a minimum).
• Desirable: Post registration qualification in relevant speciality.
