Job summary

The successful applicant will work across the clinical areas high-lighted below, developing advanced assessment, treatment, leadership and clinical reasoning skills.

MSK Outpatients: Assess and manage a varied caseload of musculoskeletal conditions, providing evidence-based rehabilitation, exercise programmes, manual therapy where appropriate, and patient education. You would manage your own caseload and contribute to multidisciplinary care.

Orthopaedic Inpatients: Assess and treat patients following orthopaedic surgery or trauma, including joint replacements and fractures. This involves early mobilisation, functional rehabilitation, discharge planning, equipment assessment and working closely with the wider MDT.

Consultant General (Upper Limb) Assess and rehabilitate patients with a range of conservatively managed and post-operative conditions of upper limb or spinal origin, focusing on restoring movement, strength, patient education, function and independence through individualised rehabilitation.

Lower Limb Rotation: Assess and rehabilitate patients with lower-limb conditions both post-operative and conservatively managed lower, with an emphasis on mobility, strengthening, gait re-education and return to function.

You would also be expected to demonstrate leadership skills, support junior staff and students, contribute to service development and quality improvement, participate in teaching, and demonstrate autonomous decision-making within your scope of practice.

Main duties of the job

• Autonomously assess, diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions.
• Manage a complex and varied caseload, prioritising patients according to clinical need.
• Provide evidence-based physiotherapy interventions, including exercise therapy, functional rehabilitation, mobility and gait re-education, manual therapy where appropriate, and patient education.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including consultants, nurses, occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals.
• Provide clinical supervision and support to junior physiotherapists, assistants and students, acting as a clinical role model.
• Participate in teaching, training and mentorship of students and junior staff.
• Contribute to service development, clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and patient records in line with professional and organisational standards.
• Manage clinical risk, safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities within the role.
• Participate in team meetings, case discussions and departmental activities.
• Maintain and develop professional knowledge through continuing professional development (CPD) and evidence-based practice.
• Demonstrate Band 6-level leadership, supporting the team and taking responsibility for clinical decision-making within your scope of practice.

Knowledge

Essential

• Post graduate Diploma level developed through CPD and experience
• Knowledge and experience of using standardised assessments and development of relevant outcome measures
• Demonstrates knowledge of equipment available and able to assess and fit where applicable
• Knowledge and understanding of national legislation, guidance and regulatory framework including NSF, NICE, Information Governance, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Safe Guarding, Professional and Clinical Guidelines.
• Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the work environment and implications for the service area
• Awareness and understanding of relevant health and Social Care legislation

Desirable

• Knowledge of continuous improvement through benchmarking and sharing and utilising best practice

Experience

Essential

• Clinical experience of working within musculoskeletal / orthopaedic outpatients and orthopaedic inpatients.

• Up to date documented evidence of CPD relevant to clinical area
• Experience of working within a multi-professional team

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree in Physiotherapy
• Current HCPC Registration
• Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently between TRFT sites and for patient visits in the Rotherham area and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Desirable

• Membership of Professional body Charted Society of Physiotherapy
• Evidence of post grad qualification relevant to neuromusculoskeletal/ orthopaedic physiotherapy
• Completed recognised IT course e.g. ECDL/Elite/MOST
