Job summary
Pre-Assessment Nurse is responsible for providing a comprehensive pre-operative assessment service for patients undergoing elective surgery. The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are clinically, physically, and psychologically prepared for their planned procedure, identifying and addressing any issues that may delay surgery or impact patient outcomes utilising the e-POA application called Lifebox.
Main duties of the job
The role involves undertaking detailed assessments, reviewing medical histories, requesting and interpreting relevant investigations within competency, and ensuring patients receive appropriate information and support throughout their surgical journey. The Pre-Assessment Nurse will liaise closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, specialty teams, and administrative staff to facilitate timely patient optimisation and readiness for admission.

- Surgical Nursing experience
- Physical assessment course

- Strong IT skills, ability to use multiple online platforms
- Phlebotomy skills.
- Knowledge of admission and discharge planning
- Sound organisational skills.

Knowledge & Experience

- Up to date on Nursing and Pre-operative assessment practice.
- Good knowledge of A & P
- Knowledge of admission and discharge planning
- Understanding of Equality and Diversity and how to apply it to self and others
- Understanding of NMC Code Of Practice and requirements of it for own practice and behaviour
