Practice Development Midwife

Driving forward education and improvement within Maternity Services.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Maternity Practice Education Team as a Band 7 Practice Development Midwife (PDM).

We are looking for an enthusiastic, evidence-based midwife with significant Band 6/7 Midwifery experience. Candidates must demonstrate a passion for education and training, as well as an innovative approach to change management.

This is a seldom available opportunity to join a dynamic team of Practice Educators, supporting the Lead Midwife for Education & Training to design, deliver and evaluate multi-disciplinary education and training to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.

As a PDM, you will also support learners through practice assessment, and newly qualified Midwives through preceptorship. You will provide guidance and leadership to Band 6 Practice Educators in the Team with the shared goal of enhancing the learning experience for all and implementing improvement work that serves the needs of all families experiencing our service.

Main duties of the job

The fixed-term, part-time post holder will work collaboratively with the existing PDM to deliver the core responsibilities of the role. Key features of the role include:

  • Fixed-term Band 7
  • Start date ASAP
  • End date 31st March 2027
  • 0.64 WTE
  • Flexible working over 3 weekdays
  • No unsocial hours or Bank Holidays (except for hospital on calls)
  • Leadership and line management responsibility for Band 6 Educators
  • Working collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to deliver high-quality education & training to learners and the MDT workforce.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic midwife with significant and varied clinical experience and a passion for education. Applicants need to:

  • Have prior experience developing and delivering education and training sessions
  • Understand the principles of teaching and learning and the application within the practice settings
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and confidence working within multidisciplinary teams
  • Be able to work on their own initiative to initiate change and champion innovation
  • Be a confident decision maker with the ability to prioritise and delegate appropriately
  • Show a passion for facilitating development in others through a supportive and inclusive approach
