Main Duties

  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, rehabilitation and discharge planning for patients to ensure a safe and timely discharge and to enable them to remain in their home.
  • Supervise and support junior team members and student Occupational Therapists.
  • Deliver evidence‑based, quality interventions using research, audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Administer and manage an independent caseload efficiently to prevent avoidable admissions and facilitate efficient discharge planning.
  • Work flexibly to meet service needs while maintaining high standards of care.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

  • Essential
    • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
    • Registered member of HCPC
    • Relevant postgraduate level training
    • Documented evidence of CPD
  • Desirable
    • Post‑graduate training in motivational interviewing, goal planning
    • Post‑graduate training/accreditation in fieldwork education
    • Membership of a professional body

Experience

  • Essential
    • Autonomous caseload management within relevant clinical areas
    • Understanding the OT process with particular emphasis on physical conditions
    • Supervision of staff
    • Knowledge of current best practice and clinical governance
    • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures (e.g. risk management, protection of vulnerable adults, DOLs)
  • Desirable
    • Experience of audit
    • Experience of multidisciplinary working
    • Experience of community practice
    • Experience of service delivery across a range of physical health settings

Aptitude and Abilities

  • Essential
    • Ability to work independently with individuals or groups
    • Organisational, planning and time‑management skills
    • Demonstrable clinical reasoning and decision‑making for complex cases
    • Knowledge of a broad range of medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions
    • Knowledge of cognitive, physical, psychological and cultural factors influencing discharge planning
    • Understanding of team dynamics
    • Physical capability for client handling
    • Effective written and oral communication skills
    • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data input)
    • Willingness to travel across sites and to client homes and community settings
  • Desirable
    • Welsh language skills (Level 3 / B2) are desirable for this role
