Main duties of the job
- Supernumerary Clinical Practice: You will work in a supernumerary capacity within your existing clinical area. This status allows you to focus on meeting your learning outcomes, undertaking clinical skills, and gaining leadership experience under direct supervision
- External Cross-Sector Placements: To broaden your clinical scope, you will complete short external placements in other clinical areas. These rotations provide valuable experience across diverse acute, community, or specialized settings, helping you understand complex patient pathways outside your familiar environment.
- Academic and Theory Integration: You are required to actively engage in all university components. This includes attending lectures, seminars, and practical workshops at the University of Plymouth.
- Theory-to-Practice Links: You will directly apply your academic learning back into your clinical area. You are responsible for forming strong theory-to-practice links, using evidence-based research to improve patient care, and reflecting on your clinical experiences to meet the standards required for NMC registration.

Job responsibilities
The following list is indicative as tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the care setting where the RNDA is working. The RNDA will: Abide by the principles of the NMC code. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate /nursing associate, work within competencies set by the NMC for each stage of the educational programme. Maintain a safe working environment. Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process in the on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate, support individuals with aspects of care including daily living, providing person-centred care and promoting health and independence through awareness raising and care navigation to other professionals as appropriate. Under the supervision of a registered nurse perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate accurately record nutritional and fluid intake. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate or other registered care professionals as appropriate. Report back and share information with the Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate on the condition, behaviour, activity, and responses of individuals. Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of working as part of a team.
- Demonstrable experience of dealing with members of the public.
- Willingness to learn and develop their role.
- Demonstrable experience, proven knowledge and awareness of patient care.
- Proven knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate concerns.
- Basic understanding of proven evidence based practice.
- Previous demonstrable experience of working within an acute healthcare setting.
- Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance nutritional requirements etc.
Qualifications
Essential
- Foundation Degree/Level 5 qualification in Health and Social care
- If completed an apprenticeship this must include end point assessment.
- GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or functional skills level 2 in Maths and English.
Desirable
- 5 GCSEs grade A-C/4-9
Aptitude & Abilities
Essential
- Basic IT skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
