Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post in the North West Anglia NHS Trust. This is a locum post fixed term at 4 months based at Peterborough City Hospital, expected to start in September 2026. Applicants interested in working less than full time or who wish to job share are welcome to apply.
The successful candidate will be working on one site at Peterborough City Hospital, though there may be a need for cross site working in the future. The total number of deliveries is 4500 per annum. This appointment will be made by the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
NWAFT serves a diverse and fast-growing population of 700,000 people and employs around 6,000 staff. Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as 'Good' by CQC in June 2023. They have fully equipped obstetric and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services.
Main duties of the job include participation in a 1 in 13 on call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Peterborough Hospital. Both units have a credible reputation for their personal approach to the provision of maternity services and the excellent care provided for women and their families.

- Education and Qualifications
- Essential: MBBS (or equivalent), MRCOG or equivalent, Full GMC Registration, Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalence.
- Desirable: ATSM Maternal Medicine or Advanced Antenatal Practice or equivalence, ATSM Benign Gynaecological Surgery: Open and Laparoscopic or equivalence, ATSM Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy equivalence, CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee.
- Experience & Knowledge
- Essential: Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics, Broad experience in obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Desirable: Experience of Maternal Medicine at secondary provider level, MOET/ALSO instructor/PROMPT course, Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels, Able to perform laparoscopic treatment for ectopic pregnancy.
- Academic Achievements
- Essential: Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit.
- Desirable: Evidence of Attendance and presentation at national or international Obstetric and gynae meetings, Evidence of completed and published research.
