Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within the Locality Therapy Team within the West of Cornwall.

The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Officers for the Hearing Impaired, a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist and Technical Officers.

Main Duties of the Job

• Undertake person‑centred, strength‑based assessments to enable people with long‑term physical health/social care needs to maximise functional and occupational performance and continue living safely and independently in their local communities.
• Focus on preventing, reducing and delaying the need for care and support, ensuring residents, families and communities receive the right support at the right time.
• Conduct environmental and functional assessments within a person's home, link with reablement and rehabilitation services in the Primary Care Network, provide information and advice, recommend equipment, minor/major adaptations, and rehousing advice to promote wellbeing and independence.
• Seek new, creative, innovative, cost‑efficient and effective solutions to each person's situation.
• Assess seating, moving and handling needs and advise on optimal care when appropriate.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, work well under pressure, and understand the six principles of safeguarding.
• Use evidence‑based practice to deliver positive outcomes.

• Working Pattern

Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day; generally worked between 08:45 and 17:15 (formal service hours). A flexible working pattern can be considered.

• What You’ll Need to Succeed
• Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy – Diploma, Degree, Masters or equivalent.
• Professional registration with the HCPC.
• Extensive experience as an autonomous Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the NHS or Adult Social Care.

Experience (Essential)

• Substantial experience working within an Occupational Therapy setting, through work‑based experience.
• Demonstrable knowledge of current developments in health and social care.

Qualifications (Essential)

• Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Health & Care Professions Council registration.
• Knowledge & Skills (Essential)
• Understanding and application of anti‑discriminatory practice.
• Good time‑management and organisational skills within organisational processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of current developments in health and social care.
• IT literacy.
• Ability to work under pressure, including in challenging settings.
• Ability to work independently.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
• Knowledge of key principles of specialist areas such as ergonomics, moving and handling, optimal care and building solutions.
