Main duties of the job

Job Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illness
  • Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence, and to acknowledge limitations.
  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments, with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary
  • Providing assessment, screening, treatment services, and health education advice:
  • Administration and professional responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient's notes
  • Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date, with accurate details recorded and amended
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
  • Ensure the collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and audits
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required

Meetings

Attend all mandatory training sessions relevant to the role.
Contribute to various practice meetings and clinical discussions as requested.

About us

Ansdell Medical Centre is a well-established GP practice located on Albany Road in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire. The practice provides NHS primary care services to approximately 12,800 patients, making it one of the larger practices in the local area. The partnership consists of three GP partners, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team that delivers a broad range of general medical services and specialist clinics. In addition to the partnership team, we have four salaried GPs, one Physician Associate, and a selection of PCN (primary care network) staff who provide further support across a wide range of services here at Ansdell. The practice is committed to delivering accessible, patient centred care and operates within modern, well equipped facilities designed to meet the needs of the local community.

  • Diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illness
  • Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence, and acknowledge limitations.
  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments, with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary
  • Providing assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice:
  • Dietary advice
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Urinalysis
  • Health screening
  • ECG
  • Phlebotomy
  • Routine injections
  • First registration checks / health surveillance / general health advice
  • Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary
  • Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures
  • Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs etc. Perform investigatory procedures requested by the GPs

Safeguarding

  • All employees must carry out their responsibilities in such a way as to minimise risk of harm to children, young people and adults and to safeguard and promote their welfare in accordance with current legislation, statutory guidance and Trust policies and procedures.
  • Employees should undertake safeguarding training and receive Safeguarding supervision appropriate to their role.

  • Independent Prescribing Qualification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid NMC registration
  • Advanced clinical practice skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of conditions
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification (V300) Prescriber essential
  • Significant experience in a GP practice setting
  • Ability to manage patients presenting with minor illness and acute presentations
  • Strong clinical decision making skills and the ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Up to date knowledge of clinical guidelines and evidence based practice
  • Competence in using clinical systems (e.g., EMIS)
  • Commitment to high quality patient care and maintaining professional standards
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise a busy workload
