Job Summary

Applications are welcome for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist (10PAs) on a permanent contract, working within the Adult Mental Health Care Unit. This is an exciting time to come and join our Medical Workforce and have the opportunity to shape the provision of care to patients within the community transformation. The main focus of this post will be provision of mental health services to the county region of Nottingham, specifically the Broxtowe and Hucknall Locality Mental Health Team, which covers the relevant practices within the catchment area and includes the associated university populations. An Advisory Appointment Committee (AAC) will be required for this post. A Golden Hello of 20% of the minimum point of the National Consultant (2003) contract will be paid for this post.

Main Duties of the Job

The main role will include the assessment of new patients and follow up patients referred to the service related to patients resident in the catchment area, GP liaison work, management of patients within the recovery model and the Assertive Outreach pathway, Mental Health Act work (Section 12) when required, day on‑call duty rota (based on a pro‑rata and on average 3 to 4 times a month for emergency work only, will be factored in the sessions and will not increase work load), cover for colleagues when on leave and working within the multidisciplinary team supporting other members of the team. There will be an emphasis on providing leadership and consultancy to the team, including support of multidisciplinary team meetings and RAMM meetings (meeting to discuss patients who are not very well and plan interventions, referrals, team cover).

Job Responsibilities

  • Management of complex cases.
  • Clinical leadership of team, engagement with MDT and RAMM.
  • Role in assessment of referrals/admissions.
  • Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence‑based treatment and effectiveness.
  • Liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies/colleagues.
  • Mental Health Act implementation.
  • Multi‑disciplinary, multi‑agency and partnership working.
  • Day duty on‑call rota.
  • Supervision or trainees and teaching.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Desirable:

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility

Essential:

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.

Desirable:

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
