An exciting opportunity has become available in the Breast Imaging department for a Trainee Female Mammographer. We are looking to recruit a conscientious, self‑motivated, and enthusiastic Radiographer to embark on an exciting training programme in Breast Imaging Practice where experience will cover both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic breast care. Qualified Mammographers are also welcome to apply. Salary will be based on experience.

Our friendly and dynamic Norwich Breast Unit is part of the QSI Accredited Radiology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, being 1 in 23 Trusts in the UK who have this accreditation. The hospital has a fully integrated RIS and PACS system.

Main Duties

The Breast Imaging Department is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital (NNUH) which is a state‑of‑the‑art acute hospital trust on the outskirts of Norwich City. Providing both a symptomatic and NHS breast screening service. The Breast Imaging Department consists of 2 mammography rooms equipped with Full Field Digital (FFD) technology including tomosynthesis, contrast enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and 3 ultrasound rooms. There is a third designated FFD room for stereotactic guided biopsies which can produce 3D biopsy imaging. We are a progressive department and aim to always be at the forefront of breast imaging developments. The Breast unit embraces the four-tier structure with Assistant Practitioners, Specialist Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners and Consultant Radiographers all being valuable members of our team.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure a high standard of professionalism and patient care, including appropriate communication with patients, providing reassurance and obtaining the patients’ confidence and cooperation to obtain the required diagnostic images.
• Liaise with the department leads regarding equipment maintenance and faults, ensuring that the correct documentation is completed.
• Take delegated responsibility for legislation pertaining to Health & Safety, Ionising Radiation Regulations and procedures for ceasing screening when equipment fails to perform to quality and safety standards, or when a woman withdraws consent.
• Maintain professional standards according to the registration criteria as defined by HCPC and the Code of Conduct of the College of Radiographers.
• Take part in any audit and research projects being undertaken within the directorate.
• Demonstrate skill in adapting technique to achieve high quality diagnostic imaging for patients whose condition would otherwise prevent this, without compromising care, involving frequent dealing with patients who are in pain and distress or claustrophobic.
• Ensure that all the appropriate documentation for each patient is accurately completed according to departmental protocols and adheres to the Data Protection Act; correctly record all radiographic images where appropriate on the Radiology PACS system.
• Liaise with clinicians, ward staff and patients concerning preparation for imaging and patient management, ensuring that the patient pathway operates effectively.

Qualifications – Essential

• Diploma/Degree of College of Radiographers
• Health Profession Council registered
• Full clean driving licence
• Evidence of CPD

Qualifications – Desirable

• Certificate of Competency in Mammography

Experience – Essential

• Possesses experience of setting, implementing and evaluating clinical standards/changes in clinical practice.

Experience – Desirable

• NHS Breast Screening Programme (BSP) knowledge and experience
• Previous Mammography
• Demonstrates an understanding and experience of working with performance objectives and organisation targets.
