Specialist Podiatrist - Diabetes Norwich

We would like to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic podiatrist to join our multidisciplinary diabetic foot team based at the Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust. This is a really exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary diabetic foot team which is one of the largest in the East of England and we see over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups per year, all of whom have complex foot disease.

You will join a team of seven podiatrists. We can offer real variety in different sub-specialty working alongside consultants' colleagues in diabetes, microbiology, vascular, and orthopaedic surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings. However, being based in one of the UK's leading research hospitals, the role of a podiatrist can become so much more. We are actively involved in several large multicentre research projects and publish widely on many aspects of diabetic foot disease. This would give the successful applicant the opportunity to participate in the ongoing research and contribute to the department's ongoing research strategy.

Main duties of the job include:

• Supporting the Principal Podiatrist in the daily operational and financial management of the team.
• Providing clinical leadership within the specialty including educational, professional and managerial guidance.
• Responsible for the daily clinical supervision of junior team members, podiatrists on rotation or students in outpatients, and other support staff within the team both administrative and clinical.
• Running the diabetic foot service providing specialist outpatient and inpatient podiatry services to people with acute diabetic foot complications in a busy clinical environment.
• Working as part of the team in dedicated medical and surgical clinics and ward rounds.
• Ordering, interpreting and advising on the results of microbiology, radiology and laboratory investigations.
• Utilising the departments PGDs to supply antibiotics.
• Helping lead clinical research and audit being carried out within the department.
• Actively involved in the development and delivery of education material.

Person Specification:

• Qualifications Essential: Professional qualifications (Diabetes related further study at MSc level or equivalent experience)
• Experience Essential: Significant postgraduate experience as a community podiatrist. Candidates offering less experience but meeting all other criteria will be considered on their merit. Contributing to clinical education/development of less experienced staff, students and/or assistants.
• Skills Essential: Ability to undertake comprehensive specialist assessment of patients using investigative and analytical skills and to make a clinical diagnosis based on presenting signs and symptoms. Understanding of clinical governance and implications for services including experience of quality issues and audit, including NICE guidance.
• Attitude and Aptitude Essential: Ability to deal with challenging behaviour. Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence. Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
