We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us to work at HMP Prisons as part of the multidisciplinary team that offers Mental Health and Wellbeing Services to the population of HMP Norwich, HMP Bure and HMP Wayland. We are looking to recruit a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our team. Qualified applicants will hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Therapies. You will work as part of a diverse and supportive team of Psychological Therapists, PWPs, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists. We are able to offer our team members the opportunity to continue to develop their expertise via training and development opportunities in different parts of our service.

This position involves working across multiple prison sites so therefore ability to drive and travel independently is essential as some sites are not accessible by public transport.

NSFT Secure Mental Health Services have been consistently rated 'Good' by the CQC. Our secure services form part of a wide and growing body of clinical services operating in a variety of settings linked to criminal justice services. This is not a standalone role, as part of the wider NSFT Secure Services Psychology Team you will receive excellent clinical supervision alongside professional and governance support.

We are looking for a qualified PWP who has knowledge and experience of working within busy and challenging environments such as community wellbeing services or secure environments and working with people who present with a range of common mental health difficulties, including depression and anxiety. The successful applicant will work autonomously and provide direct interventions to a defined caseload of service users operating within recognised professional guidelines. Qualified PWP's will usually undertake 5 contacts to provide assessments and interventions a day with residents of the prisons. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of a Psychological Therapist and report directly to the Senior PWP. This role is based across multiple bases across Norfolk (HMP Norwich, HMP Bure and HMP Wayland) as well as trust sites. You will be required to travel independently to these locations.

Experience

  • Essential: Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of mental health practice from previous experience.
  • Skills in effective risk assessment and risk management.
  • Experience in the delivery of evidence-based step 2 interventions.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification OR Experienced and Qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker with relevant experiences and competencies as required.
  • Desirable: Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy. A qualification in provision of supervision.

Skills

  • Essential: Responding flexibly and appropriately to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Using clinical supervision and opportunities for personal development positively and effectively.
  • Competent assessments.
  • Basic IT, including use of email/internet.

Knowledge

  • Essential: Mental health/mental illness.
  • Evidence-based step-2 interventions.
  • Desirable: Awareness of serious mental health presentations (psychosis, bi-polar).
  • Effects of drug and alcohol use on mental health.

Other

  • Essential: Ability to drive with access to own vehicle to travel independently, and willingness to travel between the 3 prisons and other locations throughout the organisation.
  • Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.
