Clinical Specialist - Paediatric Physiotherapist Stockton on Tees in North East

The post is for a Clinical Specialist Paediatric physiotherapist working across the Stockton and Hartlepool localities. The successful candidate will be working with a team of highly experienced and skilled therapists delivering care to children and young people aged 0-19.

Main duties of the job include:

• Being part of the Hospitals Tees NHS Foundation Trust Physiotherapy Service providing high quality care to children and their families either in the acute setting or in the community.
• Undertaking a team coach role, alongside the Clinical Team Leader/Operational Lead, in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to Paediatrics.
• Taking a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of children attending physiotherapy who may have acute complex and/or chronic conditions.
• Planning, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapy intervention in partnership with health, education and social services colleagues; and together leading the delivery and evaluation of all elements of the programme.

Job responsibilities include:

• Being responsible for a designated clinical caseload of patients, organising this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
• Interpreting and analysing clinical and non-clinical facts to form an accurate diagnosis and prognoses in a wide range of highly complex conditions, recommending the best course of intervention, and developing comprehensive discharge plans.
• Undertaking the comprehensive specialist assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills, and formulating individualised management and treatment plans.
• Being responsible for the assessment, recommendation and issuing of highly specialised equipment.
• Adhering to departmental policy; including competence to use equipment and ensuring the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.
• Recognising own personal strengths and weaknesses and identifying appropriate strategies to enhance the strengths and overcome or minimise the weaknesses.
• Applying personal effectiveness skills in terms of time management, prioritisation, resource management, self-motivation and teamwork.
• Representing the trust externally regarding physiotherapy services provided to Paediatrics.
• Being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
• Ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and supporting more junior staff to do likewise.
• Working with Medical and Management teams in strategic development of the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service.
• Participating in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Plan (PDP) as both appraiser and appraisee.

Person Specification:

Knowledge and skills

• Advanced clinical reasoning skills.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Understanding and implementation of standardised assessments and outcome measures.
• Experience of 24 hour postural management.
• Knowledge and implementation of specialised equipment.
• Driving licence and ability to visit patients independently in their own homes or other community settings.

Qualifications and Training

• Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy.
• HPCP Registration.
• Evidence of relevant post grad courses.

Experience

• Undertaking a team coach role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to Paediatrics.

• Excellent communication skills to effectively work collaboratively with health, social services and education.
