We are recruiting for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse for Appley Ward who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. Appley Ward is a 28-bedded medical ward specialising in respiratory medicine, caring for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions. We are a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team, committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care.

Job responsibilities

The accountability within your role is in line with the Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) code, which says that you must work together for the safeguarding and wellbeing of the publicSupervise, education, train and develop the workforce for whom you are responsible

Responsible for the delivery of the standards of care delivered within your area of care.

Act as an advocate for patients to ensure the highest levels of care are delivered.

Safeguard the delivery of high standards of care

Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader to cover the management of the ward or clinical unit in their absence as and when required.

In conjunction with the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader provide effective clinical leadership.

Responsible for the delivery of high standards of nursing care to all patients.

Responsible for the clinical standards of care delivered within the service area.

Responsible for leading and managing the ward team.

Accountable (in the absence of the Sister) for the service areas financial budget.

Qualifications Essential criteria

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration;
  • Practice Assessor
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant post basic clinical experience.
  • Evidence of relevant post basic study

Physical Skills Essential criteria

  • Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder e.g. manual handling of patients

Aptitudes Essential criteria

  • Professional/role model.
