We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Pathology team at The London Bridge Hospital, currently rated “Outstanding” by the CQC. Working within the London Bridge Pathology Laboratory, you'll become part of a busy and collaborative service that supports both hospital inpatients and outpatients, while also receiving samples from external partner organisations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing laboratory team where your contribution will play an important role in supporting timely and accurate diagnostic testing.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant within our multidisciplinary pathology service, you’ll be part of a team supporting a range of diagnostic disciplines, including Haematology, Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion. Your work will help ensure samples are processed efficiently and accurately, supporting clinicians and Biomedical Scientists in delivering high quality patient care. From specimen receipt and preparation through to analyser support, stock management and laboratory maintenance, no two days are the same. You’ll gain valuable exposure across multiple laboratory functions while working alongside experienced colleagues in a supportive environment that encourages learning and development.

What you’ll do:

  • Receive, process and prepare blood, serum, plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, referral and storage.
  • Support Biomedical Scientists with routine laboratory activities and analytical processes.
  • Accurately register and manage samples using the Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Operate, load and unload analysers, complete routine maintenance tasks and monitor laboratory stock levels.
  • Respond to temperature monitoring alerts, complete cleaning and disinfection schedules, and help maintain a safe laboratory environment.

What you’ll bring:

  • Knowledge of different sample types and their suitability for testing.
  • Understanding of laboratory test requirements and specimen handling processes.
  • Awareness of the urgency associated with specific tests and samples.
  • Ability to work accurately within laboratory procedures and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with laboratory or healthcare computer systems, including Meditech, is advantageous.
