Job summary

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, treatment, and management of the client group. S/he will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. S/he will actively contribute to the clinical governance processes within the service.

Main duties of the job

• Co-ordination of patient care.
• Triaging patients
• Venepuncture and Cannulation.
• Managing outpatient clinics.
• Contribute to the delivery of specific and relevant teaching sessions for all disciplines and grades of staff, client group, carers and patients.
• Communicate the needs of the client groups effectively within the MDT and the Trust.
• Collect and collate data as required by the role in order to support internal and external professional and operational bodies.

Standard DBS

Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS

Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists

Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse with valid registration on appropriate part of NMC register (e.g. RN Child/RSCN)

Desirable

• 1st Degree or working towards
• Speciality qualification
• Mentor/Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential

• Significant experience within relevant clinical setting.
• Evidence of professional development
• Evidence undertaking a mentor/preceptor role

Desirable

• Experience in relevant area of practise Trained in phlebotomy/IV therapy

Skills and abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
• Able to work as part of a team
