Main Duties of the Job

• With a recognised degree in occupational therapy or equivalent & registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council, you'll monitor & review occupational therapy care plans against outcome measures & adjust care plans to facilitate achievement of goals.
• With strong organisational, planning & prioritisation skills, you'll maintain accurate & comprehensive records of assessment & treatment in line with Royal College of Occupational Therapy national standards & local policy.
• You'll effectively examine & assess patients, identifying their problems & needs ensuring that medical, psychological, social, environmental & cultural factors are taken into account.
• With a flexible attitude & the ability to adapt working in different specialties & different environments, you'll maintain a calm & professional approach to all duties participating in weekend rota.
• As a naturally empathetic individual with excellent communication & interpersonal skills, you'll build rapport & demonstrate compassion towards patients & carers, providing effective advice to individuals during difficult circumstances.
• As a problem solver, with well-developed concentration & analytical skills, you'll utilise examination & assessment findings to competently plan & carry out realistic programmes of treatment from a range of therapeutic options appropriate to each patient using evidence-based practice.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

As part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

• Standard DBS Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
• Enhanced DBS Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that's considered relevant to the role.
• Enhanced with Barred Lists Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children's and/or adults barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

DBS Update Service

Candidates are also expected to register with the DBS Update Service which must be completed within 30 days of the certificate being issued. This helps streamline future employment checks and supports safer recruitment practices.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

• Essential: Recognized BSc Honors degree in OT or equivalent, Health and Care Professions Council registration.
• Desirable: Registered member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.

Clinical Skills/Abilities

• Essential: Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, good organisational/planning/prioritisation skills, ability to work as part of a team, effective written communication skills e.g. clinical records, reports to other health care professionals and external agencies.

Knowledge/Experience

• Essential: Experience of the NHS healthcare system (or equivalent healthcare system), experience within acute, rehabilitation and community settings, knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and treatment technique, knowledge of local and national policies and procedures e.g. Manual Handling, College of Occupational Therapists/Health and Care Professionals Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, CPR, Equality and Diversity, evidence of Continual Professional Development, experience of and commitment to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working, aware of the principles of audit, research, clinical effectiveness and evidence based practice, demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding practices relevant to the clinical area.
