Nurse Lead - Colposcopy Services Manchester

Job summary

The Lead Nurse Colposcopist role provides senior specialist clinical leadership within the colposcopy service and is responsible for supporting the safe, effective and timely delivery of care for patients referred through the cervical screening and suspected cancer pathways. The post holder will undertake autonomous colposcopy assessment, treatment and follow-up, while ensuring care is delivered in line with national standards, clinical governance requirements and best practice. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Service triumvirate, Clinical Leads, Matrons, Service Manager and wider multidisciplinary team to support operational performance, maintain patient access, manage waiting list pressures and contribute to the delivery of key performance indicators. The role is central to ensuring patients receive timely assessment and treatment, supporting escalation of complex cases and maintaining high standards of safety, quality and patient experience. The Lead Nurse Colposcopist will also provide expert clinical advice, supervision and support to the wider nursing and clinical team, contributing to workforce development, service resilience and continuous improvement. This role is essential in maintaining specialist capacity within the colposcopy service and supporting the delivery of compassionate, patient-centred care across the pathway.

Main duties of the job

Gynaecology Care Division

The Division of Gynaecology provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary level gynaecology services across 5 sites currently: Saint Mary's Oxford Road Campus (ORC), Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital, Trafford General, Withington Community Hospital. Services and at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) are being integrated into the MCS following a transition period after the formal acquisition of these services in April 2021.

The Divisional leadership is made up of the Divisional Clinical Head, Associate Director of Performance and Operations and Head of Nursing. This team is supported by two Clinical Directors and seven named consultant clinical leads assuming responsibility for MCS subspecialty areas plus clinical governance. The subspeciality areas are: reproductive medicine, oncology, emergency gynaecology, urogynaecology and benign specialist gynaecology.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• RN qualification with current NMC Registration
• A degree in nursing or health related subject
• Registration as a BSCCP trainer

Desirable

• Project management skills

Knowledge

Essential

• Accredited Nurse Colposcopist (British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology)
• Substantial competence/experience in Gynaecology / Oncology nursing

Experience

Essential

• Ability to undertake treatments as a Nurse Colposcopist within the field of Colposcopy.
• A minimum of 2 years' experience at band 7
