An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist to join our friendly Trauma and Orthopaedics Therapy Team in East Cheshire. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Physiotherapist with proven experience in the assessment and treatment of patients within trauma and orthopaedic ward settings.

We are an exciting team, offering assessment and treatment to patients in trauma and orthopaedics. We work holistically within a large multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Consultants, Assistants and Social workers. This is a part-time post available as a fixed-term contract until October 2027. The role is based at Macclesfield District General Hospital and requires working on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

We welcome applications from Graduate visa holders; it is important to note that you must have a minimum of 12 months before this expires at the start of your employment for training and operational reasons. Main duties of the job:

As a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist you will be required to provide a high standard comprehensive physiotherapy assessment and treatment service for patients with a wide range of conditions working as an autonomous clinician, using accurate analytical skills and clinical reasoning to interpret assessment findings, making diagnoses where appropriate, identifying patient problems, setting goals, and providing an appropriate treatment plan and progression. Upon the completion and maintenance of competencies, the post holder would be able to participate in the weekend orthopaedic physiotherapy roster if they wish.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications:
    • Essential: HCPC registration, Relevant professional degree / diploma, Clinical educators training, Attendance at degree level post graduate courses relevant to the specialist area or working towards this or be prepared to study at this level.
    • Desirable: Communication skills training, Membership of a relevant professional body, Completion of normal movement course.
  • Knowledge:
    • Essential: Post registration knowledge which is relevant to the specialist area and evidenced by CPD, Knowledge of recent NHS legislation, recommendations, Awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area.
    • Desirable: Knowledge of the service / trust values & objectives.
  • Skills:
    • Essential: Ability to lead junior colleagues, Advanced communication and listening skills, Ability to make appropriate decisions at all levels, Audit skills, Ability to prioritise workload, achieving a balance between clinical and other aspects of role, Ability to work autonomously and as part of team, Ability to work under pressure, Proactive, takes own initiative, Supportive team member, IT skills.
  • Experience:
    • Essential: Proven post registration experience, some of which is in a relevant setting / associated area, Experience of completing and contributing to audit / research, Experience of contributing to the teaching and mentoring of staff & members of the MDT.
  • Specific Job Requirement:
    • Essential: Prior experience working in the NHS - with a broad range of NHS rotations as a Physiotherapist to include, Respiratory ITU, and Outpatients, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Proven ability to manage complex rehabilitation issues and ensure safe and timely discharge of patients.
  • Other:
    • Essential: Ability to meet travel requirements.
