Advanced Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Hand Therapies Victoria Road, Macclesfield

This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the 'ECT Family' which includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, both NHSP and ECT bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from applicants not listed within these groups.

The band 7 Specialist Hand Occupational Therapist will provide clinical and managerial leadership for the Adult Hand Therapy Service at Macclesfield Hospital. They will be a highly experienced occupational therapist, with specialist clinical skills in hand therapy. They will manage a significant caseload of often complex patients, utilising expert clinical reasoning strategies, treatment planning, and implementation of clinical standards. Areas of work include Orthopaedic outpatient clinics alongside the Hand consultants and Hand Unit outpatients.

Main duties of the job:

• Working closely with the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Pathway Lead and the other Hand Unit Team Lead (Physiotherapist), the Joint Team Lead Hand Therapist is responsible for the operational management of the Hand Therapy service.
• They understand the demand and capacity within the hand therapy service and can report back to the pathway lead on their team's performance, ensuring standards are met and reviewed on a regular basis.
• The joint team lead will be able to contribute to service development by being aware of the national and local agendas.
• They will also contribute to the education and training of students and staff.

Person Specification:

Experience:

• Essential: Proven post registration experience in the relevant specialism.
• Experience of planning and completing audit & research.
• Experience of teaching and mentoring of staff.
• Experience of undertaking projects.

Specific Job Requirements:

• Essential: Advanced clinical skills in assessment and intervention for patients referred for hand therapy / Orthopaedics.
• The ability to use highly specialist physical and occupational therapy assessment tools for the client group, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits.
• Experience of developing highly specialist individual and group interventions in collaboration with patients to achieve therapeutic goals.
• Experience of applying an advanced level of understanding of the effect of disability to support lifestyle changes and adaptations to the patient's physical and social environment.
• Attendance at relevant SIGs and professional groups and a proven record of CPD relevant to delivery of OT in medical, surgical and elderly care services.
• Experience implementing relevant clinical guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Essential: HCPC registration.
• Relevant professional degree/diploma.
• Attendance at masters level post graduate courses relevant to the specialist area.
• Clinical Educator training.
• Membership of a relevant professional body & related specialist sub-groups.

Desirable: Communication skills training.

Knowledge:

• Essential: Post registration knowledge which is relevant to the specialist area.
• In-depth knowledge of recent NHS legislation, recommendations for specialist area.
• Detailed awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in the specialist area.
