Bladder and Bowel Specialist Nurse - Adult St Annes in Lytham St Annes

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, part time experienced Nurse to join a friendly dynamic team to promote best practice bladder and bowel care for the Blackpool and Fylde Coast community. It is essential that you have a UK driving licence and access to a car for this role.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Bladder & Bowel) will have responsibility to manage a designated caseload of patients providing Specialist Nurse-Led Bladder & Bowel Clinics and home visits across the Fylde Coast area. This includes offering specialist male and female pelvic floor assessments, investigations and skills which includes digital rectal examination, portable bladder scanning and will work autonomously demonstrating and maintaining competence at a specialist level.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will have a Level One NMC Registration, ideally a nurse prescribing qualification and substantial continence promotion, urology, gynaecology and/or colorectal and/or community nursing experience. This experience will provide you with the knowledge and skills to undertake expert assessment of patient's bladder and/or bowel symptoms either in a clinic or home setting to deliver and evaluate specialised, individual programmes of care, advising where appropriate on changes to treatment and management.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist must be an excellent communicator, enthusiastic and well organised and work well under pressure.

Main duties of the job

• The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Bladder & Bowel) is responsible for a personal clinical caseload of patients with complex bladder and bowel continence care needs, ensuring that the care delivered is appropriate for the needs of the patient group.
• The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide specialist education, advice, and support to patients, their families, and carers, this will include professionals in other agencies, promoting self-management.
• At a local level, the Clinical Nurse Specialist is also responsible for the delivery of education for bladder and bowel continence care, providing nursing expertise, advice, and support in clinical practice to the multi-disciplinary team both within the clinic and community settings.
• The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide specialist clinical advice, support, assessment, and interpretation of complex information to deliver best practice bladder and bowel care, treatment and management in line with Trust Policies and procedures, National Guidelines, NICE and NMC Code of Conduct.
• To work within and across professional and organisational boundaries, liaising with GPs, other healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies to support the delivery of integrated, individualised and expert bladder and bowel care to a very high standard.

Overall, specialist bladder and bowel Teams, will help to improve service quality, patient dignity, patient experience and patient safety, and lead to reduced health and social care costs alongside a reduction in the economic impact and carer burden.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To work independently across a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating expert nursing skills and knowledge of Bladder and Bowel care.
• To receive, triage and process complex referrals from a variety of sources.
• To provide Bladder and Bowel assessment, treatment, management, support and advice to patients and other professionals across the Fylde Coast.
• To prescribe/deprescribe within scope of practice and competency.
• To use and interpret results of portable ultrasound bladder scanner.
• To undertake pelvic floor muscle assessments and internal/external physical examinations for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.
• To be competent in male and female catheterisation procedures.
• To undertake nurse-led community Bladder and Bowel clinics, and supported home visits.
• Oversee product provision and Bladder and Bowel assessments submitted by other health professionals to the department.
• Maintain clinical responsibility for clients receiving Bladder and Bowel care.
• Refer patients/clients to appropriate professionals as required providing timely and accurate information when referring them.
• Liaise with other Nursing and Social Care Professionals, General Practitioners and Consultants, as required, when identifying the optimum course of action for Bladder and Bowel care.
• Act as a Nurse Advisor, supporting other professionals in clinical practice.
• To assist in the planning and provision of skilled Bladder and Bowel care education and training across the Fylde Coast Health and Social Care economy.
• To assist in the provision of an annual schedule of training events for dissemination across the locality.
• To provide additional training and education events as discipline specific training needs arise.
• To interface with public health promotion agencies to promote health in Bladder and Bowel.
• To provide ad hoc education to the public and to professionals promoting the Bladder and Bowel service and best standards of practice.
• To canvass opinion and review training needs regularly and deliver education to meet identified needs.
• To evaluate all training and education events ensuring an audit trail of training outcomes is maintained.
• To interface with other education and training providers locally, regionally, and nationally to ensure that education needs are met and best practice in teaching and training is achieved.
• Keep updated with current trends and new developments in clinical practice and to disseminate best practice.
• As opportunity arises take an active advisory role in the development of Integrated Bladder and Bowel Services across the ICS in collaboration with multi-professional colleagues to support quality improvements and development of care pathways for patients with bladder and bowel care needs.
• Organize and chair meetings on a regular basis for operational and service development purposes.

Qualifications

• Essential: Registered Nurse - NMC First level degree Or master's degree or equivalent NST 307 Mentorship qualification.
• Desirable: Further Bladder and Bowel care training, Leadership qualification, Teaching qualification, Evidence of continuing education and professional development, Willingness to complete degree level bladder and bowel qualification within the next 12 months, Willingness to complete V150/V300 Non-medical prescribing qualification, Willingness to complete Vaginal assessment and pelvic floor examination training within next 12 to 18 months, Willingness to complete Anorectal assessment and pelvic floor examination training within the next 12 to 18 months.

Experience and knowledge

• Essential: Minimum of three years Bladder or Bowel dysfunction experience, Experience of working autonomously in a multidisciplinary context, Experience of teaching/training others, Leadership experience, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Desirable: Working within an integrated Bladder and Bowel team spanning primary and secondary care.
