Band 5 Nurses Loughborough

Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People is looking for compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurses (RSCN, RNCB or RNLD) to join our exceptional care team in Loughborough. As part of our specialist hospice team, you'll provide high-quality palliative, end of life and short break care to babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions, delivering truly family-centred care in a supportive and rewarding environment.

Main duties of the job

• Support the Band 6 Team Leader in planning and implementing care for children and young people within the hospice.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of children and young people in partnership with them and their parents/guardians.
• Provide excellent short break, palliative and end of life care at Rainbows in a family centred environment in conjunction with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ensure all procedures are carried out in accordance with local and national policies in force within the Hospice.
• Participate in standard setting, quality assurance and audit in order to maintain and promote high standards of care.
• Contribute positively to the establishment of good communication and relations between staff and take personal responsibility for adherence to the same.
• Ensure accurate and contemporaneous record keeping and observe confidentiality of such records at all times.
• Take personal and professional responsibility for administration, storage and return of all medications in accordance with Rainbows' Policy and the NMC Code of Drug Administration.
• Involve children, young people and their families whenever possible in care planning and delivery.

Here at Rainbows Children's Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care and end-of-life support to over 750 Babies, Children, and Young People living with life-shortening conditions and terminal illnesses, including families, siblings, and carers, across the East Midlands.

Job responsibilities

• Join our nursing team delivering symptom management, palliative and end of life care, and planned short breaks.

Requirements

• Qualified RSCN (Child Branch), RNCB or RNLD.
• Relevant post-registration experience or equivalent placement experience.
• Experience supporting children and young people with complex needs.
• High standards of clinical care and communication.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to support colleagues.
• Understanding of evidence-based practice.

Person Specification

Band 5 Nurse Essential

• Qualified RSCN (Child Branch)/RNCB/ RNLD.
• Substantial post registration experience or relevant placement/experience during training.
• Experience with children and/or young people (0-25 years) with complex needs.
• Demonstrates high standard of clinical care.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to teach and support other team members.
• Good teamwork and leadership skills.
• Understanding of research-based practice.

Desirable

• Post-registration experience in children's palliative care.
• Mentoring and preceptorship qualification.
• Experience of managing a ward/unit.
• Experience of managing staff including appraisal.
• Knowledge of principles of clinical supervision.
• Experience of using SystmOne electronic care record system or similar.
