Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse Adult Critical Care Unit (HDU) London

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced High Dependency/Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team as a band 7 Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in our world class Adult Critical Care Unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital. HDU is a 12 bedded unit caring for complex cardiothoracic surgical, aortovascular, thoracic surgery, complex cardiology, endocrine and breast level 2 patients. We have one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in Europe, ECMO and Oncology patients within our specialist centre. We have 50 critical care beds across 4 areas. The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a fast-paced and an integral part of the critical care service. Must be able to work a mixture of long days, bank holidays and nights to meet service requirements.

Main duties of the job:

• Provide professional nursing leadership and clinical oversight across a range of services within HDU ensuring high standards of care.
• Coordinate and support patient pathways, while offering guidance and support to patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.
• Act as a professional role model and clinical teacher.
• Provide effective mentorship and supervision, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.
• Take charge of the High Dependency Unit as required, liaising closely with the Matron with continuing responsibility.
• Demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, confidence in working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels and across professional groups, as well as the ability to work independently.

Qualifications:

• Registrant with NMC
• BSc/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training and experience
• Adult Critical Care Course or Equivalent
• Mentorship course
• ILS / ALS provider
• Leadership programme or equivalent
• Management qualification or equivalent experience
• Specialist relevant clinical course
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Up to date knowledge of clinical speciality and evidence based practice
• Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues

Experience:

• Relevant critical care OR High Dependency experience
• 2 years Band 6 in critical care setting
• 5 years clinical experience post registration
• Evidence of positive contribution to critical care
• Experienced in advanced support of critical care patient at band 6 and above
• Involvement in provision of adult critical care course

Skills:

• Evidence of proficient clinical skills in critical care
• Proficient in communication
• Understanding of reflective practice and how it can be used
• Evidence of critical thinking and initiative to solve problems and manage workload
