Job summary

Custom House Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team for

6 sessions per week

. This is an opportunity to work within a well-established practice serving a diverse population in East London.

The role includes clinical assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, reviewing test results and correspondence, and making appropriate referrals.

The post holder will participate in the Duty GP rota on a rotational basis, supporting urgent same-day demand and providing clinical advice to colleagues when required.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, including GPs, ANPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Clinical Pharmacists, Care Coordinators and Social Prescribers, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and accessible healthcare.

The role also includes supporting QOF, Enhanced Services, clinical governance, safeguarding and quality improvement activities whilst maintaining professional standards through CPD and appraisal.

Main duties of the job

The Salaried GP will provide high-quality, patient-centred care through face-to-face, telephone and online consultations.

The post holder will assess, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, prescribe safely, review clinical results and correspondence, and make appropriate referrals.

The role includes participation in the Duty GP rota, collaborative working within a multidisciplinary team, and contributing to QOF, Enhanced Services, clinical governance and quality improvement activities.

Job responsibilities

The Salaried GP will provide high-quality, patient-centred care to the practice population, delivering safe and effective clinical services across a range of settings.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage acute and chronic medical conditions, promote health and wellbeing, contribute to service development and support the delivery of contractual requirements.

The role includes routine and urgent clinical care, clinical administration, participation in the Duty GP rota and involvement in quality improvement activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Clinical Duties
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care through face-to-face, telephone and online consultations.
• Assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of acute, chronic and complex medical conditions.
• Develop and implement appropriate management and treatment plans.
• Prescribe safely and effectively in accordance with local and national prescribing guidance.
• Manage patients with long-term conditions in collaboration with the wider clinical team.
• Provide preventative healthcare advice and support health promotion initiatives.
• Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate.
• Provide care in accordance with GMC standards and evidence-based clinical guidelines.
• Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and act in accordance with local policies.
• Clinical Administration
• Review and action pathology results in a timely manner.
• Process incoming clinical correspondence, hospital letters and discharge summaries.
• Review and authorise repeat medication requests where appropriate.
• Complete medical reports, forms and other associated documentation as required.
• Ensure all clinical records are accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous.
• Use EMIS Web effectively and in accordance with information governance requirements.
• Duty GP Responsibilities
• Participate in the practice Duty GP rota.
• Manage urgent same-day patient demand.
• Provide clinical advice and support to clinicians and administrative staff. Triage urgent clinical requests and determine appropriate pathways of care.
• Support safe patient flow and effective utilisation of practice resources.
• Multidisciplinary Working
• Work collaboratively with Practice Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), Clinical Pharmacists, Care Coordinators and Social Prescribers.
• Support team-based care and contribute to effective communication across the organisation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
• Provide clinical leadership and support to colleagues where appropriate.
• Quality, Governance and Service Development
• Contribute to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets.
• Support delivery of Enhanced Services and other contractual requirements.
• Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and service development initiatives.
• Engage in significant event analysis and learning activities.
• Support safeguarding, infection prevention and information governance processes.
• Maintain awareness of NHS and primary care developments relevant to General Practice.
• Professional Responsibilities
• Maintain full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
• Participate in annual appraisal and GMC revalidation.
• Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and mandatory training.
• Comply with all practice policies, procedures and clinical governance requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• MRCGP or equivalent qualification.
• Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List.
• Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable

• Additional postgraduate qualifications relevant to primary care.
• Qualifications or accreditation in areas such as minor surgery, women's health, family planning or long-term condition management.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in UK General Practice.
• Experience of managing a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Experience of clinical decision-making and risk management.
• Experience of working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Experience of maintaining accurate and comprehensive clinical records.
• Experience of delivering patient-centred care in a primary care setting.

Desirable

• Experience using EMIS Web.
• Previous experience undertaking Duty GP responsibilities.
• Experience contributing to QOF and Enhanced Services.
• Experience of clinical audit, quality improvement or service development projects.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting other healthcare professionals.
