Neuro-Developmental Specialist Nurse London

Are you experienced in ASD assessment in children? We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, forward-thinking practitioner with experience of Neurodevelopmental Conditions & a special interest in ASD to join our Specialist Children & Young People's Service (SCYPS) in Newham. The post holder will contribute to the development of a service for the assessment and review of children with neurodevelopmental conditions (primarily autistic spectrum disorder). They will work in partnership with Community Paediatricians, GPs and universal services to ensure delivery of an effective pathway, inclusive of wider community support. The post holder will contribute to the development & ongoing review of care pathways, policies, audits of service outcomes & develop waiting list initiatives to achieve agreed targets.

The post holder will contribute to or lead multi-professional assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions in children & young people referred to the Child Development Service. Providing specialist nursing practice across professional boundaries & develop streamlined patient care pathways between nursing, GPs & paediatricians, setting up shared care arrangements for each child as appropriate. Assessment outcomes will be discussed & agreed with patients, carers & other health care professionals, promoting health education & self-management whilst keeping the child, young person and family at the centre of care.

Main duties of the job:

• Contribute to multi-professional assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions, with a specific focus on ASD, in children and young people referred to the Child Development Service. Utilising up to date and evidence-based assessment techniques and tools, assessing information from education providers and parents/carers alongside observation of the young person. This may include specialist assessments in clinic, and observations in educational settings.
• Provide specialist nursing practice across professional boundaries and develop and streamline patient care pathways between nursing, AHPs, GPs and paediatricians. Liaising closely with other services in order to provide a co-ordinated and seamless service for patients.
• Supporting the ongoing development of care pathways for ASD and other conditions by reviewing current caseload, referral, assessment and review criteria to assist in developing a service that provides efficient and effective pathways.
• Discuss and agree assessment outcomes with patients, carers & other health care professionals, promoting health education and self-management.

Person Specification:

Education:

• Essential: Recognised health qualification relevant to specialty including professional registration e.g. Nursing & Midwifery Council. Sufficient experience at a NHS Band 6 or equivalent.
• Desirable: Post graduate/registration learning in neurodevelopment disorders, ASD assessment tool training e.g. ADOS, Training in evidence-based psychological approaches e.g. CBT, Behaviour Management training, Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification or willingness and commitment to undertake training.

Experience:

• Essential: Line management experience, Ably demonstrate autonomous working and caseload management, Proficient in multi-agency partnership working, Professional approach to supervision and mentorship of team, Experience of providing clinical supervision, Evidence of continuing professional development, Delivery of clinical training in relation to specialism, Ability to provide operational advice and guidance both within and across agencies, Literate in IT/Computer Skills.
• Desirable: Project management experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Essential: Knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders underpinned by theory and/or practice, Knowledge of service development and implementation within timeframes.
• Desirable: Experience in maintaining systems to measure performance, Participation in the development of policies and procedures.

Other:

• Essential: Demonstrate comprehensive personal management skills, Able to meet all contractual terms, Flexible in terms of working arrangements.
