Purpose: Lead and evolve AstraZeneca UK's Medical Information function, shaping how healthcare professionals and patients access trusted scientific information, while driving innovation, digital transformation and excellence in customer experience.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the Medical Information team through multiple accountabilities ensuring visibility and alignment throughout AstraZeneca.
  • Provide clear direction and motivation to team members, ensuring development and capabilities continue to evolve and team members operate at the top of their licence.
  • Drive innovation and champion the use of responsible AI within Medical Information, taking smart risks and making business aligned decisions to optimise team activities and capacity.
  • Set high standards within the business through compliance of ABPI Code of Practice, monitor and maintain team KPIs and vendor operations, and act as a Medical Information expert providing guidance to all areas of the business where needed.

Team Leadership:

  • Provide effective leadership to the Medical Information team, ensuring high performance, efficient collaboration, clear accountability, and a culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and drive the long- and short-term strategy and operational plan ensuring delivery against it, including prioritising activities.
  • Use creative problem solving and employ influence throughout the business to proactively remove potential barriers to team success.
  • Actively contribute toward the growth, mentoring and training, and development of team members including recruitment, goal setting and delivery and capability build.
  • Establish and monitor performance standards and metrics including overseeing third-party vendor delivery.
  • Accountable for managing the budget for Medical Information within agreed limits and according to phased targets.

Cross Functional business partnering and advancement of MI innovation strategy:

  • Provide oversight and analysis of the entire Medical Information content, finding opportunities to improve AstraZeneca UK’s services and customer experience.
  • Champion cross-functional partnership as a key element of strategic alignment with the rest of Medical Affairs and brand-aligned commercial teams.
  • The UK MI team are currently undergoing a transformational capability build to increase breadth of customer engagement and support the needs of the wider Medical Affairs function.
  • This role will lead in the implementation and evolution of these new capabilities and activities and help the team navigate their refreshed remit.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Ensure all Medical Information activities follow relevant legislation, procedural documents, company policies, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date personal training records.
  • Provide expert advice on legislative and compliance matters, monitor compliance metrics, and promptly address any issues.
  • Support audits, inspections, and associated preparations, and offer Medical Information expertise to cross-functional and Issue Management Teams.
  • Ensure technical standards are maintained for enquiry handling, adverse event reporting, product recalls, and product quality complaints.
  • Work alongside Medical Affairs and other relevant functions to deliver AZUK’s Named Patient Supply.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Life science degree or appropriate professional qualifications.
  • Experience of Leading Medical Information or aligned teams within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of legislation governing medical information and pharmacovigilance in the UK and EU.
  • Experience of external customer interaction.
  • Strong ability to solve problems and drive digital or AI innovation.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of creation and management of digital assets including websites, platforms, portals and chatbots.
  • Ability to effectively influence and interact with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Awareness of NHS customer groups and other key customers.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Healthcare professional qualification.
  • Experience of pharmacovigilance.
  • Product/therapy area knowledge for AZ brands/products.
  • Knowledge of ABPI Code of Practice.
