The Imaging Department at The Royal London & Mile End Hospitals have an exciting development opportunity to become a Clinical Specialist Radiographer in our team. Royal London Hospital is home to the London Air Ambulance. It's one of the capital's leading trauma & stroke centres and houses one of the largest children's hospitals in the UK.

Imaging services across Barts Health are transitioning to a new model of work, recruiting more staff to drive the quality of care delivered by Radiographers across all sites. The post holder will have a pivotal role in supporting the service to meet its priorities, diagnostic and cancer performance standards and strategic development of the service. The post holder will be an experienced radiographer who has highly developed clinical & leadership skills. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to specialise in either MRI or IR as well as rotate through the key modalities of X-ray and CT.

Main duties of the job:

• Working within a multi-disciplinary team the post-holder will contribute to the safe and effective running of the imaging department.
• They will be an expert in their field of clinical practice and will be able to perform a wide range of x-ray examinations to a high standard.
• The post holder will be required to rotate through x-ray, CT and either IR or MRI and they will participate in the delivery of a 24/7, 365 service.
• This is a leadership role and the post holder will offer supervision to band 5 and 6 radiographers, assistant practitioners, imaging assistants, students/apprentices and visitors to the imaging department.
• The post holder will ensure patient flow in the trust by actively managing the flow of emergency and in-patients to ensure same day imaging.
• The post holder will be key in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and experience.
• The post holder at all times will demonstrate a high level of professionalism and act in accordance with the HCPC standards of proficiency.
• Furthermore, they are expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterized by trust, mutual respect and open, honest communication.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• Essential: BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers, or equivalents, Health and Care Professions Council Registration, Evidence of career-long commitment to CPD, Postgraduate study in a relevant area.
• Desirable: Student Clinical Assessors Course, College of Radiographers accredited IV cannulation course.

Experience:

• Essential: Up to date knowledge of general imaging techniques, Able to work unsupervised, Awareness of clinical governance issues in relation to patient care, Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality, Completion of preceptorship, Experience of on-call and out of hours roster, Leadership and mentoring experience.
• Desirable: CT/MRI and/or Interventional Radiography experience, Previous experience as Band 7 radiographer, Experience of training staff and students, Demonstrates ongoing CPD, Experience of participating in HR processes such as performing appraisal and investigations.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Essential: Clinical and technical expert in modality, Ability to work as part of a team, Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff and new members of staff, Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively, Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at local level commensurate with Trust policies, Ability to make prompt decisions based on knowledge, experience and circumstances, Ability to work using own initiative but also to know when to seek assistance and guidance, Basic computer and keyboard skills, Keep all records up to date in a clear, accurate and concise manner on a day-to-day basis, Self-motivated with an ability to motivate others, Able to work flexibly based on needs of service.
• Desirable: Intermediate IT skills.
