The Royal London Dental Hospital is part of Barts Health and is a leading specialist hospital for first-class dental and Oral Health care & provides clinical excellence in all aspects of dentistry.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holder will provide leadership to the Dental Nurse team on a daily basis, inspiring them with strong leadership, excellent clinical skills and a visible and exemplary commitment to patient-centeredness.
- The post holder will work collaboratively with the Lead Dental Nurse and the Matron to escalate department and staffing issues where appropriate.
- The post holder will carry out clinical dental nursing on a minimum of two days per week, ensuring credibility with the nursing team and role modelling excellent clinical nursing skills.
- The post holder will line manage the Senior Dental Nurses and an agreed number of Dental Nurses within the Postgraduate nursing team.
- As well as line management of Dental Nurses, the post holder will work closely with the Senior Dental Nurses to delegate a number of key operational tasks to the SDNs in the day-to-day operational management of clinical services.
- The post holder will represent their department at nurse management meetings and the clinical governance group, and will be expected to take responsibility for delivering agreed actions with nursing teams.
- The post holder will deputise for the Lead Dental Nurse in their absence.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Essential: NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
- General Dental Council registration.
- Teaching certificate - PGCE or Diploma in Education and Training (Minimum Level 3).
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent) /Willing to complete training to gain the qualification.
- Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development.
- Ability to deputise for the Lead Dental Nurse.
- Knowledge of leadership models.
- Knowledge of range of dental nursing procedures acquired through training and experience.
Experience:
- Essential: Significant experience working as a Band 5 senior dental nurse in a similar NHS setting.
- Significant teaching/assessing experience.
- Experience of mentoring/supervising/assessing students in practice.
- Experience of planning and delivery of educational training programmes.
- Awareness of current NHS and Education initiatives in Dental nursing.
- Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance.
- Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience.
- Sound knowledge of the principles of Dental Nursing.
- Sound knowledge of the GDC Standards for Education.
- Ability to work as part of a team with a professional approach towards work and colleagues.
- Evidence of knowledge and experience of HR processes and policies.
- Evidence of service improvement.
- Previous experience of working in a hospital setting.
- Responsibility for clinical activities appropriate to department.
