We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Lead Nurse for our Colposcopy and Rapid Access Hysteroscopy Department. Working within the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for a safe and efficient service providing high quality care to service users within Colposcopy and Rapid Access Gynaecology. Main duties of the job:

  • The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team.
  • The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner informing clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients.
  • In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff, formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the clinical speciality.
  • The post holder will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff ensuring quality standards are met.
  • The post holder will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained.
  • The postholder will practice independently as a Nurse Colposcopist, accredited with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
  • The postholder will lead and deliver an expert nursing service within the Colposcopy and Rapid Access Hysteroscopy Department (RAC).

Job responsibilities:

  • Ensure patient experience is prioritised.
  • Ensure a safe, effective and efficient service.
  • Manage a team of nurses of all grades and ensure the team feel supported and valued.
  • Manage own case load of Colposcopy patients as a BSCCP accredited nurse Colposcopist in diagnostics and treatments.
  • Undertake hysteroscopy training when established in role.
  • Maintain and supervise failsafe processes.
  • Engage with governance teams and proactively manage incidents, risks, service improvements.
  • Monitor service Key Performance Indicators and performance against national standards.
  • Engage with patient experience and feedback ensuring the patient is always the primary consideration.

Qualifications/ Education:

  • Essential: Bachelors Degree in nursing, health or management related studies.
  • A Masters level qualification/in progress or equivalent experience.
  • Teaching and Assessment qualification.
  • Advanced physical assessment skills.
  • BSCCP Accredited Nurse Colposcopist (Diagnostics and Treatment).
  • Desirable: Certificated speciality courses.
  • Be an independent prescriber according to the Trusts Non-medical prescribing policy.

Professional/ Statutory Registration:

  • First level registered Nurse.
  • Meet NMC revalidation standards.

Skills/Knowledge/ Ability:

  • Essential: Advanced assessment and history taking skills.
  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of speciality with a wide range of approaches to the management of patients, demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking and be able to comprehensively assess patients for risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Excellent written and advanced verbal communication skills demonstrating the use of a variety of media/IT skills.
  • Ability to develop working relationships locally, regionally and nationally.

Experience:

  • Essential: Broad clinical experience relevant to the post, including specialist skills and experience in speciality.
  • Experience of running own clinics.
  • Experience of teaching patients and staff and others including health promotion and prevention orientation.
  • Demonstrate evidence of engaging stakeholders and influencing the development and improvement of practice, patient care and service delivery.
  • A proven track record of clinical service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management, financial management and change management.
