Main duties of the job
The locum specialty doctor has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, and for the proper functioning of of the service. The post holder is expected to maintain an efficient service, maximizing use of of theatre time and working flexibly to ensure the smooth running of the operating department.
The post holder is expected to participate in clinical governance and audit, to meet annual training requirements, and to satisfy the annual requirement for continuous professional development set out by The Royal College of Anaesthetists. They will participate in the Trust’s appraisal scheme.
Operating theatres are normally open between 08:00 to 18.00 weekdays and Saturdays

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post is based at Moorfields Eye Hospital City Road and include work at satellites (St. Anns, Stratford, Northwick Park, Ealing, Potters Bar).
The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to facilitate service provision when colleagues are absent. The lack of many services that would be found in a general hospital means that the anaesthetic service is more than usual relied upon for perioperative patient care in in adults and children.
In addition to clinical duties, the new appoine would be expected to participate in departmental activities including management, teaching and audit.

- MB BS/MB BCh
- Primary FRCA or approved overseas equivalents
Desirable
- Further postgraduate qualifications e.g. MRCP or diploma in Intensive care
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- 4 years full time postgraduate training or equivalent part time
- At least 2 years in relevant specialty training programme or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of anahesia and and ability to to deliver safe anaesthetic service in in the operating theatre and intensive care unit
- Competent in preoperative, postoperative care and ongoing management of of patients
- At least 6 months Previous NHS experience

- Knowledge of post-operative pain management
