Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in Ocular Oncology Sheffield

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced whole time Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist post with a specialist interest in Ocular Oncology to be employed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. This is a fixed term post for 12 months from the commencement date, with the potential to extend.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant in Ocular Oncology to join a high‑performing multidisciplinary team delivering specialist, compassionate, and innovative care. Main duties of the job:

• The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, effective and modern ophthalmology service with a substantial contribution to the Sheffield Ocular Oncology Service.
• Assess and manage patients with suspected and confirmed ocular malignancy.
• Participate in referral screening and triage processes.
• Deliver independent new patient and follow‑up clinics.
• Participate in virtual clinics and remote monitoring pathways.
• Undertake ocular oncology procedures and treatments.
• Contribute to reducing follow‑up backlogs and improving patient pathways.
• Participate in the weekly Ocular Oncology MDT.
• Work closely with colleagues across Ophthalmology, Oncology, Pathology and Radiology.
• Participate in training, education and supervision of fellows and junior doctors.
• Contribute to research, audit, quality improvement and service innovation.

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital. The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

• Essential: Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practice or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
