This is a locum appointment for 12 months for an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon based at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH). The successful candidates will bring one or more subspeciality interests that align with the needs of our department. These may include:
- Primary hip and knee arthroplasty
- Revision hip arthroplasty
- Orthopaedic Trauma and Limb reconstruction
Main duties of the job include working collaboratively across our sites with a base hospital at RDH and contributing to delivering high quality, patient centred care. This role may involve a split site job plan to maximise opportunities for optimising patient pathways and service development.

You should possess FRCS or equivalent. You will be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to and training of your staff, the teaching of staff in training, and the multidisciplinary team.

- Essential: MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- Essential: FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent higher qualification
- Essential: Life Support Qualification - ATLS
- Essential: Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
- Desirable: Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
- Desirable: GMC Specialist Register for Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
- Essential: Comprehensive technical expertise in acute and elective surgery
- Essential: Recognised Fellowship in one or more sub-specialty
- Essential: Evidence of independent clinical practice
- Essential: Up to date and relevant clinical knowledge in the specialty & evidence of an understanding of its application
- Essential: 1 year NHS experience
Teaching, Audit and Research
- Essential: Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
- Essential: Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
- Essential: Experience of & commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
