Locum Consultant in Neurology London

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Neurology Service at Barts Health NHS Trust as a Locum Consultant Neurologist. This joint post between The Royal London Hospital and Newham University Hospital offers the opportunity to work within a busy and expanding neurology service, delivering high-quality care to a diverse and complex patient population.

The successful candidate will provide consultant-led general and acute neurology care across both sites, undertaking outpatient clinics, inpatient ward reviews, advice and guidance, and contributing to the Trust's acute neurology on-call service. The role also includes participation in multidisciplinary working, teaching, audit, quality improvement and service development.

Working closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Lead, General Manager, Service Manager and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will play an important role in supporting the continued development of neurology services across Barts Health. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellent and efficient delivery of care. They will be expected to support the development of the general neurology service. They will work to agreed levels of activity and throughput in the outpatient department with the General Manager and Clinical Director.

• To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient acute and general neurology service.
• To share responsibility with all consultant colleagues for providing evidence-based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients, providing and receiving support to colleagues when required.
• To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and the local purchasers' contracts.
• To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services and all healthcare agencies.
• To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties working closely and regularly with Neurology.
• To encourage and foster clinical governance at clinical, managerial and medical levels and to take part in regional audit in support of evidence-based medicine.
• To give advice, support and training to junior medical staff, and medical students.
• Responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge including administrative duties associated with patient care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential: MB BS/MB ChB or equivalent, MRCP or equivalent, Specialist registration or equivalent achieved or within 3 months of completion.
• Desirable: Teaching qualification, Relevant higher degree, such as PHD, in a relevant subspecialist area.

Experience

• Essential: Experience in management of in and out-patient general neurology, including acute neurology, Experience of carrying out and publishing research or audit.
• Desirable: Management experience, Subspecialist experience in epilepsy and cognitive neurology, Experience of working with hard-to-reach patient populations, Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Skills

• Essential: Evidence of taking part in service and departmental developments/improvements.
• Personal: Communication skills, Computer literate, Evidence of teamwork and working across multiple disciplines.
• Desirable: Evidence of working jointly with other clinicians.

Other

• Essential: Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations.
